Teen/Young Adult Stories with Story Focus on More Than Just Romance (i.e. Sports, Business, etc)

junjunjey ๐Ÿšซ
Updated:

I'm looking for young male MC stories where the stories aren't just about the romance. Thus it eliminates Variation on a Theme Book I and II, Transmogrification of Jacob Hopkins Book I and II, An Ordinary Teenage/College Sex Life series, Six Times a Day, Mi Vida Loca, All American Boy

(These stories are what I consider romance-focused only. I'm not saying I don't like them, I do for some but they just aren't what I'm looking for at the moment).

Also, I don't particularly enjoy stories where the young MC is mightily rich and accomplished since very beginning. Thus it eliminates A True History series and Finding Home

Another requirement of mine would be that I don't like stories where every female and their mother want to have sex with MC since very beginning, especially so for stories where the MC became hot chick magnet where the females just conveniently approach MC, thus it eliminates The Energist Book III and several other stories already mentioned above.

These are stories that met my requirements and I already read/been reading:

A Fresh Start (military, multiple business, politics)

A New Beginning and Beyond (martial arts)

Dance of a Lifetime (sports)

Doing It All Over (preventing tragedies)

A Well-Lived Life series (works with Italian mafia, programming career)

Daze in the Valley (adult film business)

Emend by Eclipse (multiple business)

Hindsight 20/20series (sports, multiple business)

Intemparance series (rock band)

Lightning in a Bottle (rock band)

Living Next Door to Heaven series (TV cooking career, martial arts)

Make it Count (sent back in time with a 'mission')

Mayhem in a Pill [the young one's chapters] (sports)

My Second Chance series (multiple business)

Pete: A Young Man's Story (modeling career)

Retreads series (sent back in time with a 'mission')

Stupid Boy series (sports, modeling career, acting career)

The Defenceman series (sports)

The Outsider series (sports)

The Richard Jackson Saga (sports, acting career)

The Trailer Park series (sports)

They That Have Power series (supernatural ability, protecting his mother from certain danger)

Why Didn't I Just... (sent back in time with a 'mission')

Sorry for the heavy requirements.

https://storiesonline.net/s/46443/banner-year by Shrink42, some of his other stories could also qualify.

https://storiesonline.net/s/15372/learning-curves by Jay Cantrell, I take it that your "The Outsider" reference was to the Brock Miller stories.

https://storiesonline.net/s/75422/big-red and https://storiesonline.net/s/71370/following-dory by Coaster2, maybe also https://storiesonline.net/s/69980/coming-from-behind (from her perspective) or https://storiesonline.net/s/17674/hardware-and-harmony

The stories by oyster2 could also be said to fit.

Edit:
https://storiesonline.net/series/824/chaos by Ezzyb
https://storiesonline.net/s/52022/spirals by Lellan McLemore
https://storiesonline.net/series/1235/playing-the-game-parables by Rev. Cotton Mather
https://storiesonline.net/s/48790/opus-one by Ryan Sylander (One of the absolute best)
https://storiesonline.net/s/56290/path-to-glory by Brendan Buckley
https://storiesonline.net/s/46515/charlie-and-clyde by Cat5
https://storiesonline.net/series/19/the-chronicles-of-mannsborough by Vulgar Argot
https://storiesonline.net/s/58785/hyperactive-alex by zaliterr.

The second batch are somewhat older, and that's my lot. Enjoy - that should keep you busy for a few months.

@Dinsdale

Thanks for the great list. Finished Hardware and Harmony and love it and also tried Playing the Game Parables but had to drop it in the middle of Book II (because as a soccer fanatic, author's severely limited knowledge of soccer is hurting me). I'm going to start Banner Year and save Opus One for last.

While the earlier installments of Transmogrification of Jacob Hopkins are more romance and personal development focused, the later ones focus on the music career and politics, with the final volume having many elements of a thriller novel. (That said, it might not be worth it to you right now, getting through the early parts to what you're looking for.)

@Quasirandom

I'll definitely get back to Jacob Hopkins later. I finished Book I in two days and loved it (partly because those nightmare mystery is engaging enough), but the lack of anything else going in Book II (at least as far as I managed to read) other than daily life stuff kind of testing my patience, but I'll definitely get through it.

Another long style Do Over, A New Past by Charlie Foxtrot, is super interesting and might fit what you're looking for. Inventor is sent back to his childhood, and wats to create a better world, starts businesses and invents a lot of new things. A good read.

Another shameless plug. My Country Roads series (currently posting) meets what you're looking for. There's romance, but it's building slowly, the MC starts off as very poor, and it has both sports (well, book 2 does) and business. https://storiesonline.net/series/1604/country-roads

Seeing that you have listed A fresh start, I hope you have read the grim reaper by the same author.

TheCaddy's A Golfer's Dream series, as well.
Golf, some hockey, and yes, some romance.

From your examples of 'romance' stories, I have to wonder what your definition of romance is! :D

I wondered the same thing. Maybe "fucking every girl you meet"?

junjunjey ๐Ÿšซ

@samsonjas

Hmm. I'm sure I write those list as romance-focused, not to underline what I define as romance (as you seem to question) but to highlight the lack of other focus inside the stories other than the MCs' relationship progress with girls -- which is something I don't look for at the moment. I admit I put some extreme example so I get why you wondered.

The Outsider ๐Ÿšซ

@junjunjey

Another shameless plug: A Charmed Life, by The Outsider over on FineStories.

In addition to my 'A Well-Lived Life' you might try 'Good Medicine' (college/medical school) or 'Climbing the Ladder' (stock brokerage/investment firm).

The Teen Dreams series should fit OPs request. Much romance and drama, with an acting career on his side and music training on hers.

This was already covered in some other threads here in the forums. Short answer: Banadin had removed the saga for publishing via Amazon. For that purpose he split the existing stories into 7 books, then starting with Book 8 he wrote several new books some shortly available for free here, the later only available for a short time on Bookapy, afterwards solely on Amazon.
Last year he posted the first 3 books here again:

The Richard Jackson Saga
Books 1-3 of The Richard Jackson Saga A coming of age story in the 1950s. Done with wit and humor it is all true, give or take a lie or two. / (Reviews)

Nothing since.
BTW, these 3 books contain less than half of the originally posted and then removed content.

Our sister-site, Finestories, has a few. I think someone mentioned "A Charmed Life" by the Outsider, https://finestories.com/s/10527/a-charmed-life. A newer one which seems to fit your requirements is "The Dance" by Rooftop Herald, https://finestories.com/s/11091/the-dance.

@junjunjey

One of mine might fit, and that is "Country Boy, City Girl".

https://storiesonline.net/s/17259/country-boy-city-girl

The kid is a typical middle class kid, and it does involve romance in stages. As well as drama and heartache as most of the relationships just ultimately do not work out for him. He does achieve wealth at the end, but that is entirely through lucky timing and hard work.

And each book covers specific periods in his life, over about a decade. It starts with him in High School, and realizing he enjoys role playing games and is good at making them.

The second part, he leaves to join the military, and his experiences while he is in.

It concludes with his leaving the military, and turning to the only other thing he knows. Computers in the late 1980s. Where as many in that era, the money largely came from being in the right place, and making the right moves at the right time.

But he is not a perfect character, and has a lot of flaws even though he does try to do well for others. A lot of the story is about his "fish out of water" feeling, from being a kid from rural Idaho having to learn how to live in Los Angeles.
