Drama Be Damned

red61544 ๐Ÿšซ

During this time of "safe distancing", I've read a ton of stories on this site and even more dead tree novels. All of them contained a lots of drama, cheating, betrayal, horrible deceit and gross misunderstandings. I need a break. I'm looking for a light romance where the MCs don't cheat, don't lie, don't die, and, basically, meet, fall in love and live happily ever after. I know that doesn't exist in reality but this is fiction so it's got to be somewhere. Please don't recommend "Snow White" or "Sleeping Beauty". I want something without wicked witches. Any good stories come to mind?

I doubt you'll find much along those lines. The closest I can think of is this one.

Finding a Place by Don Lockwood.

Have insulin handy while reading.

While there, read some of his other work. Most is like you ask for. "Heroes" is really, really good, but there's some drama - it's a romance that deals with teens and suicide, so you can imagine the type of drama.

Also great choices: Lazlo Zalezac's Donaldson's series, Solutions Incorporated stories, and Magic.

Synergy by Colt45 is my go to for drama relief. Humor counters what drama is in the story. MC does not cheat, does not lie (though misdirects) and doesn't die.

Thank you. I don't know how I've missed that one for so many years. Now, I want to meet that family, even if I have to travel to "Pigsford" to do so.

You are welcome. I have read it 4 or 5 times now and it always leaves me with a smile.

Welcome to my writing. Go read. I recommend you start with Kimberly 2.0. No drama at all.

Also, (although check codes) many of WTSman's work would work.

Hmmm, looking through my stories I do have a few that qualify.

There is no cheating, and ultimately the main character does find what seems to be a lifetime love, and maybe even lovers. The main character changes form, from female to male so a strictly "traditional" relationship is impossible. But I purposefully left it to where she/he finds 2 people that would both accept their strange combined persona, and might find a "happily ever after".

Also, one of my earliest stories, "Okinawa".

Now while there is some "swinging", there is no "cheating". And it also ultimately is a love story, in which each of them is completely content in having found the love of their life.

"Vegas Story" is another of my early works. And while it may appear to be a cheating story, ultimately in the end it is a happily married couple simply a living out a fantasy.

I read you country boy, city girl novel a week ago.. Reading the tags, no cheating tags or anything, but omg once I started book 2, I was utterly destroyed... Still a week later it haunts my mind... Not saying it is bad at all, but god damn, it really crushed me. So now I am like OP searching for happy happy stories..

Tedbiker writes marvelous romances. His Oscar series is agree collection of stories. Others I would recommend are The Smile qand Anne.

Ernest Bywater ๐Ÿšซ

some of my stories, especially the Rivers Region ones, are based on people living their lives, but you can also expect a little drama in their life. Take Michaels Mansion where the only real drama is right at the start setting up the whole story with the plane crash. In Boone there's odd spots of drama of the type people see in their lives from that era, but it's mostly about them getting on with their lives, and the same is true for Times of Old and Will to Survive.

Sadly, I've read almost all of the suggestions. (I've been haunting these pages since the late 90's.) Oyster, I've read everything you've written. I'll try Colt 45's "Synergy"; I've somehow missed that one. BK69: I've already prodded WTSman to give us more "George" but he has yet to respond. Don Lockwood's stories are great - I know because I've read them numerous times.
Keep suggesting more while I read "Synergy". I may get through this damned pandemic yet.

Ok. So you've probably read Gina Marie Wylie's stuff. And blackcoffee's. And dotB's. Maybe... moghal or Marc Nobbs might be new to you?
I remember a writer, maybe fifteen years back, used to write stories like you like. I think she pulled them, don't recall if she came back or not. I think it was Madam Butterfly, maybe?

Oh, and a number of the Tony Stevens baseball stories. Not great, in that the Series is usually won by someone other than the Sox, but they can't be perfect.

"Last Kiss" https://storiesonline.net/s/73777/last-kiss

Of course there's conflict. You wouldn't have a plot without conflict. Bullying for example. Romeo and Juliet type conflict.

Cory and Jenna's love transcends the hatred between their families and a town not willing to forgive. He promises to love her for eternity. What happens when that's put to the test? (Inspired by the song "Last Kiss")

There's a much longer novel version available on Bookapy as well. It's similar but quite different. https://bookapy.com/s/242/last-kiss

Cory and Jenna's love transcends the hatred between their families and a town not willing to forgive. The seventeen- and sixteen-year-olds live in a tiny one-company town where Jenna's father owns both the company and town. When Cory's father is convicted of stealing from the company's pension fund, it turns the townspeople against his family and subjects Cory to bullying.

Cory loses everything. The love of his life, a college baseball scholarship, and his childhood friends. He and his mother are forced to move to another town where Cory must start a new life in a new high school.

Cory's triumphant journey wins him the love of his life while proving his father's innocence.

If you're going to read the novel, I'd skip the short story. Like I said, there are similarities. It would be best to read the novel without preconceived notions from the short story.

Most of Uther Pendragon.
For dead tree novels there is a lot of very readable romantic comedy - most of Sophie Kinsella - although I would avoid the Shopaholic series - Jill Mansell - Tara Sivec. The drama comes from misundertandings.

steve6134 ๐Ÿšซ

Most of Denham Forrest's work ends feeling good My personal favorite is " I took a memory to lunch "

samuelmichaels ๐Ÿšซ

If you like Fantasy or SF stories, many of Ka Hmnd (Kenneth Hammond) and FantasyLover's stories are drama-free. The MC generally meets opponents, and overcomes opponents with little suspense.

Lazlong also has a number of stories with little drama -- there is conflict, but not between the main characters.
