Of course there's conflict. You wouldn't have a plot without conflict. Bullying for example. Romeo and Juliet type conflict.
Cory and Jenna's love transcends the hatred between their families and a town not willing to forgive. He promises to love her for eternity. What happens when that's put to the test? (Inspired by the song "Last Kiss")
There's a much longer novel version available on Bookapy as well. It's similar but quite different. https://bookapy.com/s/242/last-kiss
Cory and Jenna's love transcends the hatred between their families and a town not willing to forgive. The seventeen- and sixteen-year-olds live in a tiny one-company town where Jenna's father owns both the company and town. When Cory's father is convicted of stealing from the company's pension fund, it turns the townspeople against his family and subjects Cory to bullying.
Cory loses everything. The love of his life, a college baseball scholarship, and his childhood friends. He and his mother are forced to move to another town where Cory must start a new life in a new high school.
Cory's triumphant journey wins him the love of his life while proving his father's innocence.
If you're going to read the novel, I'd skip the short story. Like I said, there are similarities. It would be best to read the novel without preconceived notions from the short story.
