Story where MC joins the military and advances high up the rankss

MCAddict 🚫

Hello there guys, I was reading the story, A Fresh Start, and the MC, spoilers alert, was forced to be discharged at the rank of captain just when he got a great path ahead of him (probably colonel). I was wondering if there are stories like this where the MC actually advances to high positions instead of being dismissed. Thanks for any reccomendations!

His 'A Tour of Duty' and 'Emperor's Bodyguard' are also about military service, and 'Deputy Morpheus' is a similar story about serving in a service like the U.S Deputy Marshals.

And his Emperor's Bodyguard as well.

Leaving the little detail aside that both of you mentioned "Emperor's Bodyguard" (at least you agree with each other) I thought pretty much all of his stories tended in that direction.

Actually, most of his 'military' stories follow the formula of give some background, present the problem, MC comes up with a solution, MC uses the solution to take care of the problem, everyone lives happily ever after.
The stories suggested kinda follow the same thing, but they are more episodic, where each episode builds on what went on in the ones previous ones and the character grows each time.

Ernest Bywater's Clan Amir series, the military side starts with Falcon Fledgling, which is enjoyable but net very believable.

If historical fiction and naval careers are an option for you, my Anthony Carter Universe is set in the early 19th century and has a number of stories matching your profile: In The Navy, Sea Fencibles, The Return of Thomas Grey. Go back to the 16th century, and I can offer JΓΆrg Isebrand - from mercenary landsknecht to condottiere to field captain and feudal steward.
