Long, fluffy romance

Hey all.

I'm looking for long stories that will last me a while (at least 500kb+) that doesn't feed to my anxieties or make me depressed. In the last two stories I read (which I won't name because of spoilers), the love interest ended up dead. I really don't like reading stories that end up like that. Even if the protagonist or the love interest end up dying a natural death in the epilogue, it ends up making me sad instead of having a "living happily ever after" ending, or an open ended one.

So now I want something that I won't walk away depressed from. Other than no tragedies, I don't want other anxiety inducing themes, like cheating, teenage drama etc. Nor do I want to read anything with swinging or m/m.

Think "Finding a Place" by Don Lockwood, but a much longer version. It doesn't have to be sugarly sweet. Something like Runaway Train by Jay Cantrell, or (most of) his other stories where there are some tension every now and then, but it's always quickly resolved, or something like oyster50's "Smart Girls" series (though I'm not a big fan of big age gaps between love interests) would be great.

Just finished reading it. Thank you for the rec, I loved it!
I'll bookmark A Stitch in Time for the next time I have some money left over for a premium membership.

Blizzard by Redsliver. But only if you like really handsome, talented, and humble writers.

It's currently 440kB but it'll be 540-550 when it's finished.

I'll check it out when it's finished, thank you!

Romancegirl stories on this site meet your criteria, though a little short. 300kb

I'll look into it, thanks!

The 'Lady in Red' stories would work.

Read the first two, waiting for the third to finish (if it ever does!).

Take a look at Wes Boyd's stuff

I remember reading one or two of his stories, I guess I can check out his other stories too, thanks!

The first one to come to mind is Dance of a Lifetime by Don Lockwood.

The second was rlfj's The Grim Reaper and it's sequel.

If you can stomach do-overs, try his A Fresh Start. Then, when you've read that you could try Lightning in a Bottle by Sage Mullins.

While both Dance of a Lifetime and Lightning in a Bottle are great stories (and I've read them both) neither of them are what I'm looking for right now. DoaL has swinging and Lightning in a Bottle is about as far from "anxiety inducing themes" as you can come. Cheating girlfriends, family drama, love triangles, friendship drama, shallow serial dating etc etc. While the story is great, it's not at all what I'm looking for right now.

As for A Fresh Start and The Grim Reaper, I started reading both a long time ago but stopped reading for some reason or another. I do have good memories from them and I'll try to pick them up again. Thank you for your suggestions!

The Grim Reaper is a great story, but does not meet ior2442's requirement of no anxiety causing themes.

There is exceptionally graphic violence and destruction in the combat scenes and the main character suffers from severe PTSD.

I was more alluding to romantic anxiety and angst rather than something like military violence, and the results of things like that, like ptsd. Thanks for the heads up however!

If you are qilling to look outside and into published books, you might want to look at the April Seris by Mackey Chandler (I think). The romance is a subplot alongside near-SciFi and political fiction, so if that is something ypu enjoy, go for it. There are ten novel-length books in the series and all of them are quite good, at least in my humble opinion.

The Outsider's 'A Charmed Life' and its sequal are also very good in the same fashion.

I've read the first one and felt like it ended in a good place. I suppose I can give the sequel a go as well!

In that case I will second MarissaHorne's recommendation of rlfj's Grim Reaper and A Fresh Start. Both are love stories with incredibly complex story lines.
A Fresh Start has school days, war fighting, politics, business building, betrayal and treason. The one continuous thread is the MC's love for his wife in two life times. Sent back in time to his early teens, he goes about changing everything in his life except one: he spends five years positioning himself so he can once again meet and woo his wife. This relationship is central to his life, right through to the epilogue.

The Grim Reaper follows the MC's life as a student, soldier and cop, along with his growing relationship with an Irish sprite from pre-school "Girls are icky!" to "they lived happily ever after."

Neither are of the Jay Cantrell style romance, where the relationship is the story and the story is the relationship. if you have read and enjoyed his Lifeline, where the relationship provides a continuing thread for the story arc, then you may enjoy rlfj's work.
I purchased both and have re-read them a couple of times.

Take a look at Wes Boyd's stuff; there are a few here, and more (57 complete) on his spearfishlaketales site. Most meet your size requirement, and most are in a loose series so there's more to explore when you finish one. I'd recommend Cattail or the two Bullring Days stories from here, and on his site start at the bottom of the page and work up to get the earlier stories first. There are a few that are not really romances (Snowplough Extra, Bullring Days one, Joe/Joan) but they're still worth a read.

That said, it is about falling in love and growing up the MC does end up with the girl and the bad guys do get caught at the end.

Which is on Fine Stories but not SOL. https://finestories.com/s/10527/a-charmed-life

Thank you for the recommendation, I've added it to my reading list.
