a Musical story...

Hi Folks,

I am looking for a new read, something along the lines of Hatchery Road by ShadowWriter that can be found here:

https://storiesonline.net/s/16034/hatchery-road

Or perhaps something more like Al Steiner's Intemperance I or Intemperance 2

https://storiesonline.net/s/45236/intemperance

https://storiesonline.net/s/49753/intemperance-volume-2-standing-on-top

I am looking for something with a bit of depth and it doesn't have to be on SoL and could be commercial. Mostly I am trying to find a more Adult Musical story that has some decently written characters.

Thinks like Ryan Sylander's Opus One or EzzyB's Chaos series aren't really in that vein since those are more about kids coming into their own etc. Both of those are excellent stories but not quite what strikes my mood right now.

So suggestions would be most welcome and thanks for taking a peek.

How about Learning Curves by Jay Cantrell? Or maybe Hat Trick by Wes Boyd?

I've read and enjoyed Learning Curves but not quite sure how musical that one really is. I will have to see if I can find Hat Trick as I don't recall it offhand but I believe I've read some of Boyd's other work as the name rings a bell.

Lightning in a Bottle by Sage Mullins is a very good read.

You could also try Al-Canadian's Energists series - bands and music is certainly playing a huge part in the latest story.

Lightning in a Bottle is a great story.

I can say I've never managed to go though the Energists series, I may have to try it thanks.

FYI - the "music" doesn't really start until Book 3 - Rebooted Teen Years. The first-2 Books set up the 'Do-over' story with music playing a key role in the characters life.

Are we talking music as central to the plot, or music as a continuing theme in the plot, or is music meant to BE the plot?

I need guidance for suggestions.

However, off hand, Lady in Red comes to mind. As does Making of a Gigalo (13) and Fiddling Around With Uncle Bob.

@karactr

I am looking for it to be about musicians and their music as the core of the story. I found myself just in a more musical mood and I wasn't quite looking for something of teenagers/high schoolers hence not going for the Chaos series by EzzyB, which I've read and enjoyed but its not a re-read I was looking for.

@GuardianKnight

Than I still stand by my earlier recommendations, though "Lady in Red" might be a stretch.

Trying to remember one series, Colorado if I remember, coming of age stories, prodigal drummer, musical fest and a photography cross-over in the mix. Damn, CRS is a bitch.

Uncle Randy & the Angry Niece is the photographic crossover

I LOVED that story!

Look at some stories in the 1632 universe, especially those about Marla Linder and Franz Sylwester (by David Carrico) and those about Maestro Giacomo Carissimi (by Enrico M. Toro). They appeared first in the ebook version of the Grantville Gazette. David reworked his stories for his book 1635: Music and Murder. Enrico Toro's stories are now in The Muse of Music.

How about the Harper Hall Trilogy โ€“ Dragonsong, Dragonsinger, Dragondrums โ€“ in Ann McCaffrey's Pern series?

While it's not the main aspect, music does play a big part of the last couple of Florida Friends stories involving Chuck and Lisa.

Not sure why someone recommended Learning Curves by Jay Cantrell since that one isn't really music based. Runaway Train by him is pretty much centered around music though.

That was me, and Runaway Train is what I had in mind. My bad.
