I enjoyed "Finders keepers" by shakespeer2b and "James 2.0" from pen epically. Any other stories like this where the MC gets alien tech and gets upgraded. I prefer something like finders keepers where he build a fleet to save the planet.
Cheers

Not exactly what you ask about, but I think you'll like this story

The first time I saw the title of this story I thought of the SciFI story 'A Boy and His Dog' by Harlan Ellison.
The story Companion does not involve alien tech but includes an alien that "upgrades" the mc. It's the first story in a trilogy.

Tandra by John Wales

I think John Wales has at least one other story in the same theme.
Some good suggestions thanks.
I read companion when it was released and did enjoy it then. Will have another read soonish. I have not seen or read tandra so I will go for it now.
"Island Mine" by Refusenik is pretty close to what you are looking for.
His 'Human' stories are about the same. In all three, the alien tech interacts without asking.

There is also series "The New Federation" from Monbade.
For me it looks a maybe little bit childish, but good read anyway.

Did you look higher?
artie gave the same error message, then I tried the root,
"http://stuff.greenberg.org"
and got this:
It works!
This is the default web page for this server.
The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet.
Am I right to assume the server got scrubbed and the newly set-up server has no content at all on it?
HM.
I looked around the site a bit back when artie's stuff was still there. The subdirectory /artie was not "advertised" - you could go there if you knew it was there but that was it. My guess is that the owner got a takedown / breach of copyright notice and deleted the directory, pure speculation on my part.

My question is was artie the sole user?
You say the subdir /artie was not "advertised", so you must have accessed the root, did you back then get the same message about the default web page?
The site should at least have a rudimentary homepage and not just this message from the server software telling it's running but has no content to show.
Now thinking about it, this may be a fake message to discourage hackers โ if there's no content there is no reason to hack the site.

Artie had an ASSTR web page, and when he announced he was taking down his stories in X days, Greeenburg mirrored his site. Earlier this year Greenburg's site went down. There are good Wayback Machine archives of both the ASSTR and Greenburg versions, neither is complete, unfortunately, so some stories are missing. the relevant links have been posted previously, use the forum search function to search for "artie" and "Wayback" for the latest time I posted them; yes, there are more recent captures of the sites, but the links I posted take you to the most complete captures in regard to actual contents.
A somewhat similar story would be Ascension of the Alpha Male.
Guy inherits a patch of ground, finds a space ship on it and uses it's capabilities to right some wrongs.
Atlantis by Warlord. It's incomplete but a good story and lots there and in his other works. Yes you will have to expand your definition of alien tech but not by much and it works here
I don't have time to search it out right now, but there was a story about a teen who had what turned out to be an alien break his window one night and take up residence in him. It started out ok, but I never finished the story so I don't know what went on after that.
Later: It was 'Rise of the Phoenix' by Guyver. Unfortunately, he is no longer on SOL.
