Sailing - incredibly specific story(ies)

BrandonInOhio ๐Ÿšซ

Hi everyone

I will admit that I am not having much luck with the search function. I will state that I am NOT a premium member.

I am looking at see if anyone is aware of any long form stories here where sailing plays a gigantic part of the plot?

I've read some Oyster50 smart girl universe where sailing plays a part. Also aware of Dual Writer having some.

Is there anything here that can be recommended for sailing nerds? Stories about leaving the big city and cruising the Caribbean or Mediterranean full time? Pacific crossings? People who crew on a passage and fall in love?

Any recommendation where sailing is the HEART of the story would be greatly appreciated.

It depends on whether you mean sailing specifically with sails or more generally any nautical travel.

A yacht with a motor is central to EzzyB's Chaos stories, though they never leave the Atlantic coast of the USA.

@Diamond Porter

Sailing specifically. 99% of 30+' have inboard diesels, but once you've experienced simply the sounds of the wind against the sails and through the rigging, along with the sounds of water against the hull, motors become annoying. Diesel generators are often common of larger boats to keep lithium batteries topped off, especially boats with ac.

Tedbiker has a number of very good sailing related stories based around England. Not all yacht type sailing.

Specifically the Jenni and Serendipity series from Ted Biker.

Also Wes Boyd's Blanche Tickle Girl (not here but on his Spearfish Lake Tales site).

Not to forget Wes's Winchester Harbour and Rag Doll! Sailing and fishing on Lake Superior and in the Florida Keys.

Argon's Anthony Carter universe is full of historic Age of Sail stories if that is your thing.

The one problem with his stories is that unless you know what all the sailing terms mean it can be hard to follow. That being said I still love the stories.

Phil Brown's Because you were Cold https://storiesonline.net/n/47102/because-you-were-cold has quite a bit of sailing in the story. It is just missing the pacific, but does have the Atlantic, so 2.5 of your locations. Different ocean, but same seas.

Old Man with a Pen also has some sailing stories. They can be a bit quirky but fun reads.

https://storiesonline.net/s/18210/dark-days-darkest-before Is another good story with sailing/boating.

'The Voyage of the Hawk' by The Blind Man.

'Captain's Choice' by Coaster2 (I know Coaster2 wrote a 'boatyard' story, I'm not quite sure this is the one).

I'm surprised Catman hasn't been mentioned. I haven't read his stories but they seem to be in your ballpark.

I believe it is, and I can't see any other of his stories being a match.

Thank you.

Even if it isn't a good match for the OP, I hope he enjoys reading it anyway.

Dark Vision has a lengthy three story series - The Lottery, Lady Guinevere and Unique Adventures that focuses on a group of families who develop a love of deep sea fishing. Unique Adventures is incomplete but still absorbing.

You can find Moby Dick online. You can't say it doesn't have sailing in it.

I was wondering about the stories and authors names that seemed to be copies of old known works. Just checked and a few seem to be recently updated/posted.

The thoughts on Coaster2 remindedd me he did write a story called Overboard, but while the protagonist owned a boat, it was incidental to the story. Hwever, that reminded me ov Overboard by Oyster50. TThis was quickly abandoned owing to the pressure of other stories, but he did offer it out to others who might be inspired to take it forward.

So we have OVERBOARD! by HandyMan

And Overboard Too! by Friar Tuck.

They both spring off in different directions after incorporating Oyster50's opening chapter. (That's why I didn't link to the original.)

Has a boat based series starting with If I Had a Boat.

Inspectot ๐Ÿšซ

Not quite sailing is at the heart but 'Maid Elizabeth' by Smilodon A Love story set against the background of the Second World War. The story starts in 1936 with Jack and Beth meeting in Jack's father's boat yard. They are from very different backgrounds but even so, over the next few years, friendship turns to romance. Then the war intervenes... It is behind the paywall.
