Real world harem stories

moretea ๐Ÿšซ

Are there any of those? I'm looking for a "realistic" one where the people in it are trying to cope with contemporary laws, mores etc, and I can't recall ever seeing one.

A lot of those I've found are in the swarm universe, but many, if not most of these, are centered around the federation pickup moment and not much more.

And then there are the ones that add a new woman every 10 lines and once they are out of bed the woman is barely mentioned in the rest of the story.

So I'm hoping for some recommendations.

Some of the swarm stories depict lives of well, family groups, long after the pickup -- I think Allan Joyal has a couple.

I am thinking Dual Writer (Florida Friends), Aroslav have quite a bit of life in families with one man and multiple women. They are also subject to adding too many women after a while.

Maybe The best of Both Worlds by Dilettante? In the beginning, it has only a couple of women, although it keeps growing.

My A Well-Lived Life Series deals with many of those issues, as well as LGB marriage concerns (a lesbian couple).

The MC has a lot of girls, and even the 'one-off' girls tend to stay in his orbit in some fashion. The story is not all sweetness and light โ€” the relationships are complex and have serious ups and downs.

Mine are more focused on the underlying relationships, and why they work as they do. As I started here in order to provide a more realistic harem story, so it's much more about the character development than it is 'adding the next lay' to the list. But, that's just me.

In short, focus more on the longer, plot-centric, stories, and less on the short straight porn stories.

Like in my post-apocalyptic series, it focused on how everyone reacted to each death, as a reflection of how they'd inevitably respond afterwards, when they're utterly overwhelmed with personal loses and trauma. So, by focusing on the individual relationships, the story was much harder to read, as each individual death felt like your own trusted friend's death, yet because of that, even those who could finish the story, were more than happy to devour the sequel, because they cared so deeply for both the characters and the character descriptions.

As they say, you reap what you sow, in this case, you sow what you reap? (i.e. you have to care about the characters in order to care whether they live or die.

And very few people are suited for a multi-partner relationship, and the whole 'free-love' mindset never played in the '60s and '70s when the term was first coined and it doesn't work today, unless you properly set it up first.

But, my stories are too varied to list them all, and I've actually removed many of my classics (i.e. they're officially behind the SOL paywall now).

I've always been more of a details person, so I like to dig deep into my characters background, so readers can fully comprehend why they act they way they do, as otherwise characters are simply empty figureheads moving around in a stage.

Check out POW by Joe J. It's about a US pilot shot down in Iraq who is held captive/rescued by the widows of a cruel farmer. It's a harem story contained within the household. It focuses very much on daily life and has a great conclusion. I dont want to spoil it by saying anything more.

For a historical approach, there is Angelique and the Sultan by Anne Golon, about a Frenchwoman in the 17th century, who falls into slavery on the Barbary Coast. An early bodice ripper, if you can find it somewhere (1960 dead tree book).

Sold in the English speaking world under the pen name Sergeanne Golon, a portmanteau of Anne and her husband's names. I thought they were a fun read nearly five decades ago. Lots of swashbuckling, travel, romance and some non-graphic sex scenes that were as risque as publishers would allow at the time.

Apparently out of copyright, as the book can be downloaded at the internet archive.

The copyright data on the book at issue from what I could find is 1960. Both under the Bern Convention and US law, it's likely still a live copyright.

And the Internet Archive has had copyright issues.
