Thanks.

Bro. I appreciate the knowledge but I know how to search. But blurbs and ratings can be misleading or insufficient, so i was asking for people's personal recommendations of good stories.
I know how to search
In that case you're likely to see few suggestions that aren't already mentioned in previous forum threads on this subject.

Drat! I missed seeing the earlier rec for Banner Year. Well, there is another Shrink42 story that vaguely meets the request, Redemption.
What are you looking for in a sports story? Is a sports backdrop enough or are you looking for action scenes that take place in the competition(s).
For instance, if you read the Brock Miller stories, the first one talks about high school football, but never really describes a game or coaching. The second one features MLB baseball and has some pretty detailed accounts of gameplay and some back and executive office decisions.
I guess i mean where the sports are more the focus. With slice of life and any sex/relationships playing a supporting role.
Query... how long until it is considered uncouth to mention one of my stories to answer this question?
Oh well...
Just wondering...
Query... how long until it is considered uncouth to mention one of my stories to answer this question?
Never? I don't get why some authors are reluctant to promote their own work when it's properly responsive to a request for recommendations. If it's relevant to the OP, go ahead and toot your own horn.
Did the OP say he was only looking for complete stories?
No, but it's polite to warn that a story is incomplete because so many readers don't like incomplete stories.

I agree about warning that it's incomplete. I don't agree to the extent that you are suggesting that incomplete stories shouldn't be mentioned at all. And I wasn't responding to the OP, I was responding to a question about author's mentioning their own stories.
It's his responsibility to mention it's incomplete if he decides to mention the story.
I don't agree to the extent that you are suggesting that incomplete stories shouldn't be mentioned at all.
I never suggested that. I've suggested incomplete stories in other threads while pointing out their incompleteness. If incomplete stories shouldn't be mentioned, newbies would never be apprised of 'The Private' by Random Writings.
AJ
I never suggested that.
And yet that is exactly how your first reply to me came across.
All I said was that authors shouldn't feel ashamed of mentioning their own stories if they are relevant to an OP's request for recommendations.
And you reply to that with "The story is incomplete and hasn't been updated in over a month."
If you weren't suggesting that incomplete stories shouldn't be recommended, then how is it in any way relevant to MY comment. I hadn't even recommended any story.
And yet that is exactly how your first reply to me came across.
That's your problem, for reading something into it that wasn't there.
then how is it in any way relevant to MY comment
You're right, my correction of shinerdrinker's etiquette fail should probably have been appended directly to shinerdrinker's post.

This whole subthread made me think of Neil Warnock aka "Colin", it is claimed he can start a fight in an empty room.

Would that be a sports story? I see Neil Warnock's at Huddersfield. Obviously the story is incomplete ;-)
