Why the Unnecessary Extra Steps in Bookmarking?

bturner1010 ๐Ÿšซ

In the previous version, you hit bookmark, it lit up/changed color, and you were good to go, why are we having the unnecessary extra steps for each and every bookmark. If we want to annotate something that is easily done individually, but when you only have a few minutes to check things out it's kind of a "PITA". I like to live by the "KISS" rule. Just one mans thoughts.

Not sure I understand.

Are you bookmarking the story every time you read it, to mark where you left off?

Just asking because I use the My Library link (third on the menu bar on my screen from the home page) and it shows all stories I am currently following. Clicking on the story takes you to the new chapter, ideally or, at worst, to the last place you stopped and you click Next to start reading.

With that method, you don't ever need to bookmark it more than once, the first time you decide to follow the story.

Where it takes you is controllable in your my library settings. You can set it to jump to the last read chapter, or to the index page. I have mine set to go to the index page.

hy are we having the unnecessary extra steps for each and every bookmark.

From what I recall, there are no extra steps. Before the change, clicking the Bookmark button opened a window allowing you to enter information and clicking the Add Story button added the story to your library. An confirmation page confirmed the story had been added. Clicking the OK button closed the page. That is what I recall of the old version, but my recollection may be wrong.

There are two differences. The 2 pages have a different look, and when the confirmation page closes, the new stories aren't greyed-out like they were before the change.

I didn't think it was that important when I implemented the new display to skip the confirmation stage.

By the way, you may want to rethink your bookmarking strategy. You're about to bump into the library's limit. The library is not meant to be a 'mark as read' function. The green dot is for that.

The library has a limit? What is it?

You striplings!

I'm old enough to remember when it stood for 'Lots Of Love'. And that might be appropriate in this case ;-)

Oh AJ you sweetheart.. :)

I know how much you wanted to give me that BIG, HARD thing for Christmas, if only you were not in tier four, when you desired to just tear one...

Your big, hard backed sudoko book will just have to wait a little longer...

Actually I was thinking of Lots Of Love to Lazeez for allowing so many bookmarks, but in the circumstances I'm not going to disillusion you ;-)

At 10 stories a day, every day, and no repeats/rereads it would take more than 4 years to go through 15K stories.

Yeah!!!

Let's not forget those stories that are 1+ Mbytes, which for most of us take more than a day to read. So your 4 year duration is probably very low; especially if he is a slow reader.

How long would it take to bookmark 15K stories, which takes far less time per story than reading a story? If he continues to bookmark stories as he reads those he has already bookmarked, he will never reduce the number of stories bookmarked.

There are shorter stories on SOL. Hmm, I wonder if Lazeez could/would provide a distribution of stories by size?

If you want to do the work you can do it by using the search functions

1. I don't want to.

2. It would be a lot easier for Lazeez to do directly from the database.

I agree completely. It would be a LOT easier for LJ to do it for me, than for me to do it myself. Easier for me, at least. LJ may have other things on his plate, though.

True, but It's a lot of work for one of us to do it through the search function, vs a fairly simple query in the back end database.

It would be kind of cool to see a histogram of stories by size, but I just don't want to see it badly enough to justify doing the work myself.

under Advanced Search from the Home Page you can do a search by story size as well as many other limits.
