Number of words in the stories

9hans.fritz6 ๐Ÿšซ

Hello, Sorry for my english, since i'm using google translate.
I would like to know if possible, that you can see the amount of words that the stories have, as you can see in the reviews.
I know the size can show but it is quite inaccurate in many stories mainly in those with few chapters
I'd be very gratefull that somewhere in the details of the story
the approximate number of words would appear

SOL does not provide the number of words in a story.

I picked a 71K story. It had 13,360 words.

You can approximate it from the story size in KB using an average word size. Average word size for English is around 4.7 characters. Which comes to around 218 words per KB.

You forgot the inter-word space, which brings your average down to 179 words/KiB. Allowing a bit more for punctuation brings it roughly to the estimate I use, 5+1 chars/word, which is possible to do in your head = just mentally divide the KB figure by 6 for Kwords.

if the story is also available on Bookapy.com you can check that site for the word count, as it's part of the story info there.

We've discussed this very calculation here before quite recently. A better figure to divide by is around 5.5.

Up towards 6 and the 'story' belongs in a scientific journal because it's full of incomprehensible jargon. Closer to 5 and the story is suited to children.

Being a pretentious twat I use quite a lot of long words in my stories so my average is usually between 5.6 and 5.7.

The story info at the head of story reviews gives an estimated word count as well as the KB size figure. Playing around with a few of these, it's pretty obvious that the wordcount given = KB * 1024 / 5.4 as doing the calculation in reverse gives a figure close to 5.4, and + or - 1/2 KB always brackets the 5.4 figure.

Just curious... is there any instance where this matters?

The number of words is important to me, because I prefer that they have a minimum of 100,000 words and the more the better.

So your lower bounds in terms of size in kb should be around 550

That sounds about right. A True History is 428,552 words, according to my software, and 2219 in size according to SOL. It's posted in plain text, NOT in HTML. I'm seeing that A True History Book Two is showing a little larger in file size, since I'm posting in HTML, but it's actually showing lines, italicized characters, and other things that make the story more readable.
