Forum: Bug Report and Feature Requests

Gray backgrounds

REP ๐Ÿšซ

I have had something odd happening for the past week that is more annoying than a problem.

I go to New Stories and it displays multiple stories with white backgrounds (new to list). When I Bookmark a story and am returned to the listing, all of the previous newly added stories have gray backgrounds.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a configuration issue or a bug?

It's not a bug. It turns gray after you've seen that part of New Stories... The next time you visit New Stories, it marks a clear distinction between stories that has been added since your last visit.

That's how this forum works. Inside a thread, the posts you've already seen are greyed and the new ones have a white background.

Congratulations on qualifying for a complimentary premier membership!

The explanation is as given above and is a feature of the premier membership. If you wish to avoid the greying, then instead of clicking on the story names to go to them to bookmark them, use ctrl-click to open them in a new tab, do what you want with it, then close the new tab, which avoids reloading the page. Alternatively, use the site-based bookmark button to the left of the download buttons. If you are using a laptop, you can probably adjust the viewing angle to the point where the grey and the white look the same (I often seem to hit this by accident, which means archived authors are indistinguishable in the authors lists). Another option would be to refresh the page immediately it's loaded, so it's grey from the beginning.

For years I have opened New Stories and the newly posted stories had a white background and the previously posted stories had a gray background.

Assume I had six stories with white backgrounds. When I wanted to bookmark a story, I clicked the story's Bookmark button, and then clicked the Add Story button. The display would revert to the list of stories and all six of the new stories retained their white backgrounds.

Now when I now click a story's Bookmark button and then the Add Story button, the display reverts to the list of stories and all six of the new stories backgrounds have changed from white to gray.

I did not exit the New Stories page nor did I go to a story to bookmark it.

I did not exit the New Stories page...

Yes, you went to the add bookmark page.

I would argue that for the screen is a pop-up that is part of the coding for the Bookmark function.

If you are arguing it ought to be a pop up, okay. However, that's not how Lazeez has it set up now.

Though if you really want to preserve the new story list as is, you could do a CTRL + click to open the bookmark page in a new tab.

That function is refreshing the New Story page. The same will happen if you manually refresh the page.
First visit - new stories is white - second visit (page refresh) all gray.

Add-on: Probably the only way to get it to work differently (automatically), is to write a code that force's it to open in a new window/tab.

That function is refreshing the New Story page.

Refreshing the screen is not the purpose of the Bookmark function. The Bookmark function appears to be refreshing the page, but the function did not do that several months ago.

Perhaps a browser change. Previously using a cached copy of the page when re-drawing it and now refreshing (re-downloading) it every time?

Using Chrome on android I open the home page and see the grey/white distinction. Browse the forums then use the browser back button to return to the home page and grey/white distinction is still there with the time stamp of when I loaded the page some minutes ago. On the other hand the forums list does change, greying the forum I have just read when I use the back button to return to the list of forums.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a try.
