home stream wierdness

Updated:

I was looking for the next instalment of a particular serial I'm enjoying (Ch. 7 of Magic 101 by Reluctant_Sir), and it wasn't on the 'home' 'stream' page.

On a long-shot flyer I checked elsewhere -- 'My Stream' and 'Updates'-- and was very pleased to find it in both those listings.

I realize this appears to be a fairly minor glitch, but I figured I'd pass it on anyways, just on principle (and in case it signifies something more serious).

It probably 'fell off' the home page. Every new item on the home page moves the rest down up to a maximum number of items displayed otherwise the page would keep growing and take longer and longer to load. To follow a serial you best check the updates page and if you have premium you can add it to your library so you never miss an update.

Except there were still other stories, with earlier time stamps, on the page.

Strange, I can't think of a reason why that would happen. Maybe you blocked certain tags from displaying but I don't think they act on the home page.

If you scan through the Stream entries, you will find that they aren't listed in chronological order, but seem to appear in the order that they were added. I don't know why that is, but it matches what I see.

You say they appear in the order they are submitted, and going by the "last updated" timestamp for stories, they are in chronological order.

So, why do you say they are not in chronological order? Do you mean they should be listed in order based on when they were submitted? If so, how could you know what that order is?

There is a difference between stories and blog posts listed, as blog posts show up immediately whilst stories are held for moderation, other than that it would seem that the stream IS in chronological order.

Or did you mean something else?

You are correct. I must have been focused on the Posted dates and overlooked that there was a Updated field on some entries.

In itself, it's a pretty minor glitch.

The only question is whether it might point to the existence of a more serious problem.

I certainly couldn't say -- mentioned it "just in case".
