"Report Abuse" button on story pages

Every post here on the forum has a "report abuse" button/link, adding a similar thing to stories would make reporting easier and presumably ease the mods workload as well.

Why?

As an example, this slipped through moderation;

Which is why I both noticed and reported it. That prompted my suggestion to add a 'report abuse' button to story pages.

2. According to Chapter 1's posting information:

Updated: ‎4‎/‎21‎/‎2018‎ ‎7‎:‎16‎:‎28‎ ‎PM

3. Kelly's TOC copyright information indicates - © 1989, 2008, 2012 by Morgan. All rights reserved.

Someone calling themselves "Steve August" reposted it - with the original copyright notices intact - a couple of days ago under their own name. It has since been deleted.

Thanks, although I understood that part of the posts.

What I don't understand is the author page indicating the story was posted on ‎8‎/‎18‎/‎2001‎ and all of the chapters indicate they were posted on ‎12‎/‎13‎/‎2003‎ and there is no copyright date for 2001 or 2003.

I vaguely recall Morgan updating one of more chapters so that could possibly explain it. Does adding an end note cause the story post date to alter but not the chapter posting dates?

Actually there was something about certain authors uploading minor updates to chapters and accusations about the action being done to maintain their high ranking in the top 'whatever' lists, can't remember the exact circumstances nor if the accusations were valid.

Does adding an end note cause the story post date to alter but not the chapter posting dates?

The author page shows the initial post date of a story, and if the chapters were posted on multiple dates, the date the final chapter was posted. Each chapter displays the date and time the chapter was posted. The first chapter's posting date should match the initial post date shown on the author page. For Kelly, the author page and Chapter 1 dates don't match.

The chapter posting information will also show the date of the last update to the chapter, if updated. Updates do not affect the author page's Concluded date, if the updates occur after the story was concluded.

Do not know how many times it has been reposted.

That's a given. The question seems to be, when was it originally posted to SOL. The author page indicates 2001, but the chapters show 2003. The dates should be the same.

Do not know when Laz started keeping the original
posted date on the chapters, but if you go back and look at stories that were posted in 1999,2000 and 2001 and updated the chapter date and posted date on the synopsis do not match. The chapters only show last time updated not the original posted date.

Maybe we need to ask Laz when he started keeping both dates with the chapters.

Like I said to joyR, the initial post date on the author page and the Chapter 1 post date should be the same. They aren't.

When Lazeez posts a new story on SOL, the copyright date of its posting is added. The current copyright dates may have been specified by Morgan. If a copyright date for posting to SOL was added for 2001 or 2003, Morgan may have edited the story's copyright data to delete that date.

If you look at https://storiesonline.net/s/35465/kelly and then click "Show Story Details" you get the same date in 2001 as in the Author Page. I'm assuming the original story was posted on that one day.
Morgan seems to have replaced the contents while leaving the story description in place. Lazeez could tell anyone who is interested how that can be done, your Updates do not affect the author page's Concluded date, if the updates occur after the story was concluded gives a clue.

IIRC, Lazeez has said that the only way to change a chapter's content is to repost the chapter. Morgan could not have changed the content directly.

The Show Story Details indicates a Posting date (i.e. initial posting) of ‎12‎/‎13‎/‎2003‎ - either the 2001 or 2003 date is wrong.

Show Story Details gives Posted: 2001-08-18 (the date format is locale-dependent). This is not what you are seeing.

Might this explain it?

I do know that author, every year., was choosing a story under the old voting system (that favored old stories) slightly modifying it, and getting a new "completed on" date to get it on that year's list of top stories. All of the stories were completed many years before.

I sort of doubt it. That reason might explain a 1-year difference, but this is a difference of about 2 years and 4 months.

ETA: I didn't agree with what she said, but didn't pursue it.

My understanding is that if you modify a story, the Concluded date doesn't change. I'm not sure of what happens when you replace an entire story. However, Kelly does not have a concluded date and Morgan appears to have updated all of the chapters rather than replacing the story. So what Ezzy was talking about doesn't seem to apply.

I believe there is some additional confusion here.
The date I am seeing is the one shown when you click "Show Story Details" on the https://storiesonline.net/s/35465/kelly page.
The date you are reporting is the one seen when you click [More Info] on https://storiesonline.net/library/author.php?name=Morgan&sf=alpha&so=asc&p=2
I have to assume that only the format is locale-dependent, not the actual values.

3. The More Info shows the original posting date as 2003-12-13
Items 1 and 2 above are the same date. Item 3 is slightly more than 2 years after Items 1 and 2. Lazeez's explanation, see above, explains why there are 2 different dates.

I must have switched the two page names. As I said just before your post:

The 2003 date is wrong and this is due to how the site started and the technical implementations of the engine.

When I started the site in 1997-98, it was manually created html files.

Then in 1999 I started using my own content management system, but it was actually a hybrid. The story info was in the database, but the text was html files and the database contained a link to the html file.

But eventually, I needed a more controlled access method and that required a story delivery mechanism that creates the html pages on the fly.

I created that, but I had to convert the html files to the site's new filing system. I created the current delivery mechanism in 2002 and it took until 2004 to finish converting all the stories from html to the then new system.

So the 2003 time stamp for the chapters is actually the day that the story was converted from the old system to the new one.

Thanks. I knew one of the two dates had to be wrong, if not both.

I haven't noted posting dates of old stories in the past. Based on what you explained, I will use the author page date if there is a difference.
