Anyone else getting a browser alert that the SOL certificate is untrusted or is it just me? This occurred 15 minute ago while I was still logged in.

yep. Closed the tabs and went in again a few minutes later without any problems.
I added support for https on the www domain, and while installing the new certificates there was a short time (around 5 minutes) where things weren't as smooth as usual.

Thank you for the explanation. I always get fidgety when certificate warnings occur ;)
I know what you mean. I get warnings from MSN site telling me the sites certificate has problems and Microsoft doesn't seem to care.

It's happening quite often, as sites keep moving from http: sites to https: sites. MS really can't do anything about those who haven't changed their entire website domain yet, so it's completely 'out of their hands'. It also affects mail messages, so be sure to check your 'junk' folders, as you may be missing messages from those you know and trust along with all the drug and sex ads.
Thanks, however MSN is an MS site. One would think that they would fix their sites' certificates. My junk folders get emptied every week of so.

But again, just like Amazon and Create Space, MSN is essentially an 'orphaned' site which MS bought years ago, and no longer cares about (and refuses to support). Just like with me, sooner or later I'm going to have to dump the server who's supported me for years and switch to someone better able to compete. Both CS and MSN are essentially 'dead ends'. We can fight it all we want, but it doesn't change the nature of the beast. :(

I wish the firm providing my website domain would do the same thing, as my users are often unable to access my site with 'warnings' about the content, and Apple won't even allow me to use my own email address, despite it's being perfectly valid (they allow me to read all my mail, but they absolutely refuse to allow me to send anything using them. :(

You mean sending an email from 'you@example.com' via the iCloud mail servers? That requires a bit of work on both their and your parts to make it work seamlessly (including you setting up SPF records and them adding DKIM headers for your domain). I do it on my server for my users, but I control DKIM and run DNS for them so I can add the SPF records.

I wasn't referring to the technical problems, merely bitching that my webserver refuses to upgrade to secure sites, while Apple refuses to trust any non-secure sites. In short, I'm caught between a rock and a hard place, with no way out other than dumping my server and constructing a new site on another server. :(
But again, I was just bitching and kvetching. My problems (in this matter) really don't affect anyone else.

I moved from a solution where I had hardware at a local ISP to using AWS and never looked back. Pretty simple to maintain (I'm using Linux, of course) and the LetsEncrypt project makes getting free certs and installing them trivial and automatic. Contact me for details if you wish.
