Forum: Bug Report and Feature Requests

An enhanced forum search facility

Updated:

Prompted by a recent thread on the forum, I used the forum search facility to se what there was on a particular author. The answer was lots, but what I was really looking for was recent threads - and there isn't a way to ask for the results to be reverse-sorted by date. Could this be added, please - and also a way to restrict the search to topic titles?

(Or, if there is a way to use an external search engine to achieve this, could we have a note on the forum search page indicating how this is done, please?)

(Edited to remove the author name, and to correct some typos.)

@solitude

for the results to be reverse-sorted by date

I once asked for that. The results are not sorted. The system uses some search engine that displays the results in order of relevance. I don't know why the old stuff always shows up first.

With Google, duckduckgo or Bing you can use the search syntax:
site:https://storiesonline.net/d search text

Then the search result can be filtred by date (last 24h, last week, etc. Or between two date) in the tools menu for google or directly via dropdown in duckduckgo and Bing.

https://storiesonline.net/d (and https://storiesonline.net/d search text)

I entered both syntaxes and using Bing I only got a list of sites. What do you do to search SOL's forum text?

On duckduckgo I use it like this:

jay cantrell site:storiesonline.net/d

That gives the usual list of urls after a search. Then you can use the other filters.
To be more specific you just use more search words.

Thanks for this. It is nice to know that search engines are allowed to trawl through the forums. Perhaps there ought to be a privacy warning shown when creating or responding to a post: "please be aware that all threads in this forum are capable of being monitored by external search engines".
