I assume it's a setting problem

LonelyDad 🚫

I recently upgraded to a new PC, and unfortunately not all my settings migrated with me. On my old system when I clicked the epub button a dialogue window opened allowing me to point to where I wanted the file stored.
Now, when I just click the epub button a download window opens showing all the files I have downloaded gong to some directory on my system drive. To get the behavior I used to get I have to select the 'save link as' option. How can I get the old behavior back?

Your new computer probably has a newer operating system. I suspect the OS has a different means of handling a download and probably cannot be configured to do what you want it to do. I had a similar issue with my new computer a couple of years ago for it came with Windows 11 - big difference between 10 and 11.

If it is due to the new OS, the only way I know of to restore the old behavior is to install your prior operating system, but that may not be compatible with your new hardware.

Someone more familiar with your new hardware and software may have a different solution.

My old system was running Win 11 updated to about a week ago. The new one is also running Win 11.

Usually that's a browser setting.

Which browser?

In Firefox there is a check box for 'Always ask where to save file'

In Chrome there is a toggle switch for 'Ask where to save each file before downloading'

That fixed it! Thanks.
