Ian
here are the other 32 and how do I access them ?
Do you have any category or author exclusions set?
list says 198 stories. β¦ but when I click there are only 166 stories.
I get the same results.
And when I check the DoOver tag in Category Search, I get 205 stories.
My advice is to use Category Search directly and select "DoOver" and hit "Search." Doing so, you can sort it by score, date, etc. and choose the amount of sex, size, plus other things.
I am not a premier member. If I check DoOver in Category Search, I get 10 stories and get told there are 205 available to premier members.
Ian
I think that's a limit on the number of search results you get. If you refine the search with additional criteria, you should get different stories.
Refining by additional criteria is a premier function.
No. Not even premier can refine the search from the search results page.
You have to go back to the category search page. Even as a none premier member, you should be able to select multiple categories in one search.
There's also some extra stuff at the bottom that shouldn't all be premier only. Genre, sex level, minimum score, minimum and maximum size.
As a non-premier member I can select by category, yes, including selecting multiple categories. But that is it. 10 results only.
ALL the other search criteria are for premier members only.
And I'm not complaining. I am very grateful that as a non-premier (nonpaying) member I have access to thousands of stories.
Ian
ALL the other search criteria are for premier members only.
I had no idea.
I'd still like to know why the discrepancy of the total number of stories with that tag β 198, 166, 205

I checked the Author Exclusion possibility. I searched on DoOver and got 203 stories.
I excluded an author with several DoOver stories and repeated the search. I got 199 stories.
Stories by the authors on your Author Exclusion list will not be listed.

Well, AFAIK Author Exclusion is a premier function. I don't have it, and if I do, I don't use it.
Ian
There are a bunch that are premier only.
Between premier level, author status, filtered access, logged in or not, there are now many criteria that are built into the code that it's hard to track how each results are presented to each different type of account and why you're getting different results from others.
The biggest filters are age level filtering and premier/free, but there are more nuances than that.
There are a bunch that are premier only.
That means the story is not presented to free members at all ?
Ian
Well, I changed some things.
A history of the page is necessary I think.
When I started SOL, there were no filters whatsoever. As the years passed and the rules evolved and Google and other search engines' algorithms changed, I had to change how the site behaved.
Initially, the raison d'Γͺtre for the 'bytag' page was for Google. For the longest time, it was never presented to logged in users. However, when I removed the splash page and replaced it with the age check overlay, the links to the bytag page went away. So to keep google's access to the 'bytag' functionality, I linked it from the categories page in the manner you see now.
For SEO purposes, the byTag page actually excluded 'incomplete and inactive' stories and poems, as they weren't ideal to present to search engines.
So the discrepancy that you experienced was mostly due to the inactive status being excluded.
I've removed the code that excludes inactive by default, so now you'll see all 205, but the difference is that now, you'll see the 37 incomplete and inactive ones too.
Complex code interacting with complex data in complex ways (some of which were unanticipated).
I work in IT. Been there, done that. No t-shirt though. :)

I worked in IT for 35 years till I retired. Have to agree :-)

There's still a descrepancy between the number in the ByTag and the actual number of stories.
The number for DoOver in my byTag is still 198, although now when I click on the count it shows 205 stories like a Category Search does. (Premier, no exclusions or filters used.)
