Forum: Bug Report and Feature Requests

Thanks for the new feature

LonelyDad ๐Ÿšซ

I see you have implemented the 'Ignore' feature. I only have one question. If I use it on a member, does that make that person basically disappear from SOL as I am concerned, just in the Forum, or only on that thread? There is at least one member where I like his stories, but his comments in the forum usually didn't contribut anything.

In the forum. All threads.

I wondered what that cancel button was for. Does the person being canceled know he has been canceled? I think that would only be fair.

They're not being cancelled. They're being ignored by one specific reader. Why would they want to be notified that one person doesn't like their posts?

A notification of being blocked is pretty much the equivalent of 'person x said fuck you' and then you can't respond because the person would never see your reply. Wouldn't be a nice thing now, would it.

I understood that, just used the wrong word.

"Why would they want to be notified that one person doesn't like their posts?"
I for one would like to know. If enough people chose to ignore me, I would rethink about expressing myself. They don't have to be named but there is a limited number of posters and if I knew a good number said "Fuck you" i would like to know.

Not a good idea, that notification would only lead to vexed users leaving the forum.

Isn't that the whole point of the button? I am sure I have more than one person ignoring me, though it still wouldn't chase me away.

Being notified of being block was not the purpose of the button.

No, not to make them leave the Forum.

The one person whose posts triggered this feature is very much aware of others' opinion of his contributions, he made some typical posts in the thread requesting - and announcing - the feature.

I'm somewhat - but only somewhat - curious as to how many members have him blocked a few weeks later, and whether he's still the only one whose posts are blocked. Of course if he has started blocking other people in order to increase the size of the blacklist, that does not count.

I think, may be wrong, but there is no "blacklist". Just your own personal block list, which affects no one else.

I did not express myself that well, for all we know there is only one person anyone has blocked (blocklist!) and one way for him to end that would be to block some others himself.

End what?
He could block everyone, and we wouldn't see any difference.
It's like blocking a spam caller's phone number. Anyone else can call you, and you can call them.

It's a bit more than one.... LOL. You mentioned the tally back in 26/11/2023 was five (all the same individual), I wouldn't be surprised if it was higher now. You should make it a category in the yearly awards, "The most ignored user of the year is..." ๐Ÿ˜‚

I find it rather amusing that I could block myself.

I thought you had to have multiple personality disorder to block yourself.

@LonelyDad

There's one poster who cannot be blocked - but he would definitely want to know if a reader was blocking him!

I'm wondering if there is any interest in being able to unbloc someone?

I don't intend on blocking anyone, but I believe if you have a block you should have an unblock.
