How hard would it be to implement a 'Reply via SOL mail' button in the comments section?
I see this as something restricted to the author who might want to give a private reply to a comment made to one of their stories.

In the forum, in the lower right corner of any comment (other than my own), I see 4 icons.
From left to right: Bent arrow pointing left (Reply to post), Hand thumb down (report abuse), Arrow up(back to top), Envelope (Send private message).

He asked for it in the comments section. I assume that's the comments attached to a story. I never read any so I don't know what's in there, but it sounds like the author can reply privately to a comment but another reader cannot.
But I may be completely offtrack since I never read a comment on a story so I don't know what's in there.
The author cannot reply privately to comments as things stand right now. As an author, I have four buttons:
Reply
Delete Post
Block User From Story
Block User From Author
Harsh!
Reply goes to the comments.
I've asked for such a facility previously. As far as I'm aware, Laz has it down in his list of things for consideration but I believe its priority may be very low because it's not simple to do and few people are clamouring for it. Do free-user readers even have a mailbox?

I would also appreciate this feature considerably. Sometimes there are replies to comments that are better done in private (or with a public reply and a more specific private reply).
Instead of using the reply button in the comments try using the contact author at the bottom of the page.

Actually, what I was proposing would be a button similar to the 'send private message' button in the forums.
Also, this feature would only be available to the author of the story being commented on.
Readers comment on stories....? 😲
only if the author allows it. Otherwise no. I can see why most don't though.
