Forum: Bug Report and Feature Requests

Would be a nice touch

LonelyDad ๐Ÿšซ

Is there a feature or option where the originator of a Forum post can get a notification when someone responds to it? Not a biggie but it would be nice.

Thanks

@LonelyDad

it would be nice

If the orig poster could disable it for a thread. There are many threads that go "crazy" and I stop reading them, even if I was the OP. I'd hate to be inundated with notifications on those threads.

I agree with Ds. Besides, if you want to see if someone has commented on your thread since you last visited it, all you have to do is access your thread.

Yeah, but some people respond to BUNCHES of threads per day.

@akarge

That is true. It is also true that if my post is receiving numerous posts, I do not want my email flooded with messages informing me that someone posted to my thread.

On my monitor, the first indication that no one has responded to one of my posts, since I last accessed it, is the post is shaded. If it is not shaded, then at least one poster has added at least one post to the thread.

If this feature was introduced, it would need to come with a "don't bother informing me if xx is the one who replied" blacklist. Not wanting to mention any names . . .

You evidently missed my point.

I don't believe that any OP of a popular thread would want to be inundated with emails notifying them that someone replied. To block those potential emails, the OP would have to block everyone.

There is no logical reason that I am aware of to add a feature that 1) is not needed, since an unshaded thread serves the same purpose and 2) requires an action that the OP probably would find annoying, especially if they frequently initiate threads.

I don't know about others but I just click "All threads by date" and it shows all the threads that have new posts.

Considering that some threads have over 100 replies and most don't even concern the OP just people going off tangent.

Me too. Then I look at the color of the dot to see if there are new posts. If it's a thread a stopped reading, I simply click on the dot to make it gray. I don't want to be notified of people posting to it.
