It would seem there is a small problem.
There is no problem.
On the story's index page:
This story is incomplete. It will probably never be complete because the author passed away before finishing it.
It's submitted by one of Xalir's editors (Justin) here simply to complete the Xalir's works and it's long enough to make for an interesting read.
If a story is posted by an "inactive" author, it is made Premier Only at some time in the next 24 hours.
Where that system breaks down is when an author resurfaces here after a longer time away, then their new story (it may apply updates as well) is also made Premier Only. They can delete that flag, but if an author has been away that long they probably don't even know about the site change. Two examples?
https://storiesonline.net/a/Moghal and https://storiesonline.net/a/sugar-sweet1259
In Moghal's case I had to tell him what was going on via "Reader Comments" (his Email button is still deactivated), SugarSweet posted to Author Hangout (complaining about missing feedback) and found out what was going on that way.
As I wrote in that thread, it would make sense to change the way this kind of situation is handled - if an inactive author resurfaces then their stories should be made public again. No idea what should be done in a case like Xalir's.
The last chapter ends with "I changed back into my suit and". The strange cutoff suggests that part of the text is missing. Maybe because of the artificial chapter splitting?

No. That's exactly how the text was submitted by the editor.

Which is why he said it was incomplete. LOL
Give it an AI to complete ;-)
Not for publishing of course, but for someone desperately wanting a reasonable ending that might be an idea.
Now I'm wondering how many different endings there are going to appear on the net for many incomplete stories...

Might try that with David Gerrolds Chtorr books...

THANK YOU!
He's SAID he's working on them, and the final books will be out any day now ... for more than thirty YEARS!
It'd be funny if I hadn't felt so invested in the story and the characters when I was young. Waiting patiently for the next book in the series, reading and rereading them to see what would happen next. Now, I can't find it in my heart, liver, or spleen to forgive him at all.
SPOILER ALERT: Chapter 15 of A True History MAY have a slightly snarky comment from an established science fiction author.
