Seems like this would promote author/reader interaction and perhaps minimize the incentives for authors to go off and create their own discussion sites.

If Lazeez decides to implement your suggestion, I hope he includes an on/off option like we have on stories.
To me, my blog is to pass on information that may be of interest to my readers. If they have a question or wish to comment on what I wrote, they can use the Contact feature to send me an email.
There is also the question of how to organize the comments, especially if the readers are responding to other reader's comments. The only way I can visualize doing that would be to list the comments following the blog comment. I certainly wouldn't want to go through my blog looking for new comments.

Agreed. I prefer no comments on my blogs.
Did your last blog provoke any e-mails? I seem to recall a couple of places where it was of questionable taste.
AJ
I was thinking more about promoting reader engagement, but there could be downsides. And there might need to be an option to block a commenter.

The reader can comment on a blog. People do that all the time on my blogs. I get a message from them (no one else sees it).
Yeah, I meant comments more like those for stories.
Not sure why people comment on stories, especially as (a) there is a forum that can be used for this purpose; (b) the comments become out of date / less relevant when new chapters are posted; and, (c) readers have a way of sending comments directly to the author.
If comments on blogs are allowed, I hope there'll also be a way of allowing readers to hide them all (similar to the ability to hide comments on stories).

It's feedback to us as authors. It's also feedback to others who have started to read the story about various things within the story they may or may not understand, and are looking for an explanation. Keep in mind that many of the comment threads start out as questions about something. There are a LOT of authors on here that, if you sent them an email, they will NOT respond to it. Period. I don't know why, I'm typically not one of those.
I've been wanting comments on author blog posts, too. They would be a good way to build more community. (Yes, individual readers can PM the author in response, but without public visibility, there's no conversation.)
Agree with all the comments that this should be something authors can turn on/off by post.

Let's not forget the above comment about providing blog readers with the ability to turn off comments in an author's blog.
Can you imagine a popular author's blog with an average of 10+ comments per blog entry with the comments following each entry. You would have a problem finding earlier entries by the author that you hadn't read.
Most blogs with a page that shows several entries, comments on individual posts aren't shown โ those are accessed either on a separate page for post+comments or by expanding the hidden comments.
Handling comments on blog posts is old tech.
I don't see a need for it, but if it happens I would assume a comment to the blog would not be put on the main page like a new blog is.
