Histogram of votes for stories

Joe Long ๐Ÿšซ

Didn't this site used to display for the author a histogram of vote scores 1 thru 10 as part of story stats? If so, is it still a feature and where can I find it?

@Joe Long

Too many remarks about voting, raw score vs processed score, etc. Lazeez did away with it some time ago.

@REP

Thanks.

I was interested in how the votes changed over time. In particular with my most recent, after 20 votes I was barely cracking 6.0 with after 70 was over 7.0 Appears that some folks were in early to pepper it with low scores.

That's just expected any more. There have even been some people who've gone so far as to create fake accounts just to one-bomb stories. As in, the ONLY stories they've ever read have ALL been one-bombed. And yes, I know this through a conversation with Laz about it.

I'm sure it would be a lot of work, it would be great if an account's 5 and below votes didn't count until they had entered at least three votes of 6 or above. If someone is actually reading and voting on stories that they think they would like, there's really no reason that the average of all their scores shouldn't be above the mean for all stories.

Would also be great if any vote on a story that the account hasn't opened all chapters on (or downloaded) didn't count either. No skipping the the last chapter to 1-bomb.

That said, I do find that the scores on SOL are somewhat useful in selecting stories to read, although I get the feeling that the kinkier one's tastes, the less true that might be.

I think the really kinky tasted people are the ones who are doing most of the bombing, because they find a great story, only it doesn't have QUITE their level of perversion in it. So they get upset, and bomb it.

I'm one of those people, and I certainly don't bomb story scores.

Though I have considered it a few times for stories that are tagged with a kink I'm looking for but then don't actually have it in the story.

Isn't the best way forward for that, to flag the story for a mod to adjust the tags accordingly?

No, that is at best a bandaid on the problem. The best way forward would be for authors to pay more attention to correctly tagging stories.

It's somewhat subjective.

In my WIP, I have one F/F scene. Actually, a rather small part of a chapter. But I won't have the "lesbian" or "bisexual" code listed (the reader doesn't know or care if the women are bi or gay). One small act in a 70-chapter novel, to me, doesn't justify the tag.

ETA: For that matter, there is oral sex throughout the novel. But I'm not sure I'll even include that tag. The story isn't about that. However, there's a lot of masturbation, especially in the beginning, so I will include that tag. As said, it's subjective.

I think it's a bit less subjective going the other way (the author included a tag with no justification for it).

Oh, I don't think I ever did that

I try to minimize the number of tags because of the comments here where people complain about a story that lists every tag under the sun. I try to include the ones that are germane to the storyline.

Yeah, but that's what I was talking about.

It's very annoying when I'm looking for something particular in category search and find a story with the right tag where it's not even a casual mention in the actual story.

That actually happens quite a bit.

Here's the opposite. Excluding a squick tag so that, I guess, the story is not blocked by the search engine. I just did a Category Search and found the following in the description:

ATTENTION: Chapter 22 ends with a scene that is not coded. Straight males may want to skim the last 10% or so of this chapter. Sorry, but it was a necessary part of the story.

I assume the gay sex tags are left out.
