School uniforms enforced by an (inadequate) AI

LupusDei ๐Ÿšซ

This is totally silly and likely quickly devolves into absurd, but is actually a more "realistic" variation on a recurring wank fantasy of mine. "Realistic" because it make humans in administration be merely insanely uncaring instead of suffering from actively malicious case of cognitive dissonance in a hard to explain way.

AI also opens space for it to being at least partially fun and student's incentive driven, in chaotic and partially unintentional way and not just pure abuse. Although abusive it is regardless, I guess.

Well, the basic idea is that school uniform rules are so strict that everyone ends up naked eventually. And yes, the seeming contradiction in the previous sentence is the whole point. It's all about cognitive dissonance and contradictory rules enforced arbitrary. Bad AI with remarkably inhuman logic is perfect central instigator of this.

The traditional (to me) main sequence is seemingly rather simple, the list of allowed clothing shrinks over time by ruling variations inappropriate until elements of the last valid set is likewise banned, by ruling each peace inappropriate in turn, and the list of allowed clothing shrinks to nil. Nudity is deemed inappropriate until it becomes inevitable and then it's revealed as never been banned, as by a twist in the rules it can't be banned for not being an outfit or otherwise.

Introduction of chaotic AI instead of malicious administrators as the core enforcement make things far more less straightforward and much more fun.

The explanation how is lengthy, so I'm splitting this here.

Background:

It happens I have fun "communicating" with an adaptive AI designed to screen NSFW images, but being hilariously bad at it (as of yet, perhaps). Not going into details of where, why or how... but it had made me make some striking realisations about perception.

So, someone obviously had shown that thing lots of nudes and clothed people, perhaps "Czech casting" kind of way, side by side, and when it got the nude rejected most of the time called it the day, believing the adaptive feature would refine the recognition over time.

Hint, it kinda works but it can be subverted just as easily in making it accept increasingly inappropriate images. Like, you supperimpose two images of a clothed and naked ladies and make the dress increasingly transparent, and by the end of the day it will claim the naked lady is wearing the dress. And the ultimate "bikini" it accept is three string bows glued to points of hips and in the cleavage, or from the back, a single string around rib cage is enough to get a girl "dressed" while, annoyingly, fully naked back isn't okay even if the butt isn't in frame.

You maybe already have noticed, it doesn't care about filling of regions, just contour lines. It's not human logic. Butts and boobs are the same round-ish objects with shadow line under, cleavage and crotch are the same Y patterns. Any seasoned artist likely isn't surprised, but I needed the AI to tell me that. One bra present in the image "covers" them all even if its hanging aside entirely.

It reliability and efficiently recognize nipples, but someone had said it that some nipples (male) are okay, so it mostly ignores them all, instead measuring breast volume by its shadow. If it doesn't need support it doesn't need to be covered, very "East European" attitude it had developed there. Effectively, it's that shadow it deems obscene not the breast itself. Or butt, for that matter, and those orbs don't have nipples so are "covered" obviously. Mole on a shoulder blade may warp it into a breast and get rejected, or not, depending on the shape and shadow.

Cupless bra is a mixed bag, some nipples (unfortunately including the fleshy teats I so love) you will never get past it without drawing a 2pt line right across. Yay for long hair.

And pussies, oh boy, it's lost in the variegated forms to the point it likes them naked better, absolutely in love with crotchless panties even though it's supposed to reject upskirt shots and cameltoe. And guess what, it does so quite reliably. But someone had said that structurally invisible yoga pants are okay, so ladies wearing a belt are dressed, as long the pubic hair is absent or neatly trimmed, but she need stockings if the vagina is noticeable. Don't ask me why. Perhaps because panties hanging around mid thighs still count as being worn. Very Japanese.

Dappled sunlight shadows... you can imagine by now.

For a human observer, it's like totally random what image is okay and what isn't, until you learn to recognize those contour lines and even then.

I can only dream social media will adopt this thing. Hey, it works, most of the time, until you do something it doesn't expect. But it will, at first, rejected even an upside down contorted flexy girl, just because, lots of skin forms smashed together in unexplainable way, must be some kind of sex. Until you convince it, fragment by fragment, that every 1/9 of the image is "appropriate" by it's own twisted rules, so the whole must be, even though it's skin from top to bottom.

The disappearing dress act above; do it in reverse and you will end up with "inappropriate" dress, because it will remember the nudity underneath.

And that's just with a single figure in the image. With groups, it becomes worse. It has huge difficulties to differentiate between subjects. It can't count past four and four is same as three. It counts: one, two, three, three, group.

Have a line of overlapping figures where first girl from left wearing a dress, the second a shirt and third is naked, and the AI would rule: Appropriate, three naked girls. Flip the image, and ruling is: Inappropriate, three girls in dresses.

Put a naked girl tight between two or three clothed girls and it's seemingly not seeing the nude at all, excluding her from person count, and ruling it accordingly appropriate.

And did I mention it remember elements of images it has ruled appropriate or inappropriate and use them to make new rules? And it prioritize recent input over old, and thus can easily become moody.

So, imagine a version of the above abomination is elected to enforce uniform rules in a school or otherwise.

People, especially teenagers, are curious and playful. Girls will like to know what exactly they can get away with, even though the enforcement will seem to be extremely tight at first.

There's quite same sequence until someone would come up with the invisible bikini, but suppose it happened. It's very likely panties are already banned by then, because flashing panties is an offense, but bare crotches are not. And transparent clothes are increasingly okay, but not if an obvious underwear bra is shining through.

Then it all avalanches down because clothes next to and invisible naked girl are increasingly recognized as inappropriate.

Something such.

This is full of obvious plot holes as a sieve. Lots of questions. For one what the pushing action is, or how the human administration is avoiding involvement, especially in the late stages when there's obvious nudity around. But... potential for fun is quite obvious, even if it has to be toned down a bit.

To me, the answer to the last question is: the administration is actually loving the whole thing, so they're damn well going to publicly blame the 'damn AI' that 'the bureaucrats saddled them with,' while (behind the scenes) making sure the bureaucrats never change a thing.

Why the parents are okay with this is a tougher question, but it could be the school is otherwise so good it's sacrificing their kids' education for their modesty, or some such. In which case, the kids who remain after parents freak out are exactly the ones whose parents have probably raised them to not care so much about modesty in the grand scheme of things.

Okay usually i don't comment on other people's story ideas but i felt like i had to comment on this one.

This is a good premise but I think you're ignoring the simple principle of K.I.S.S

Instead of the op, have the AI measure skin exposure and at random it says "Student (insert name here) stand and prepare for uniform inspection and then Robot A comes out and inspects the student for uniform compliance.

If Robot A finds a violation Robot B suddenly captures the offending student, restrains them, and confiscates the illegally altered garment (without providing a replacement) and delivers punishment in some way (I picture a metal tentacle spanking) before letting the student down.

I've thought about a not quite naked in school scenario.

School uniform for girls:

Bra, sheer blouse, skirt (no longer than mid-thigh), knee high socks, heeled shoes.

*Panties were deliberately left out

For gym class, substitute a tennis skirt for the usual shorts.

Ridiculous to accuse me of ignoring K.I.S.S and then immediately introducing robots and what not.

This isn't future. It's about misuse of current day technology for sought cost savings. In underfunded, understaffed public school. Any kind of bespoke robots are out of the question. The AI is lowest bidder provided. It monitors uniform use quasi continuously trough existing CCTV cameras and issue verbal warnings and commands through existing PA system. Those aren't actually hard-force enforced unless it also alerts a staff member who doesn't have time for that shit anyhow. Thus there's the space for experimentation.

Me, if i were writing this and knowing that,I'd have to create some sort of disparity between the AI having strict limits and some hopeless human who thinks "eh ill let this slide" and then the AI well im thinking of an old 1990's movie called "Virus" i think it is but less horrific....

Yes, exactly.

The rules start extremely strict, unreasonable so, and are pushed against, and administrators make adjustments that result in an overreaction. Human rules and judgments are extremely contextual and conditional. AI generalizations are not. If it see pink tight shorts as a girl being bottomless, and you say it's okay, you are saying that it's okay for girls to be bottomless. Then you catch a girl running around in panties or skimpy bikini bottoms and decide it's not okay, and tell the AI that. The AI goes, okay, so panties aren't allowed, therefore, it's either uniform skirt or nothing.

Then you get a naked girl complaining the AI ordered her to strip, and try to say the AI that's not okay, but the AI is trained to recognize clothes and the naked girl is invisible to it as long there's some clothes (on or off a person) in the same frame. You say the image contains inappropriate elements, AI is confused, but after enough examples it would isolate some elements present in all the inappropriate images and decide those are at fault (of course, the most reliable one actually is nipples, but for fun, it may pick up some other pattern).

Unfortunately, I do not recognize the reference that follows.

That's a switch from 'romp' to 'dystopia' :)

If the AI is in charge, things will go from bad to worse almost inevitably. If it can't manage clothing, what else can it screw up?

I don't know that dystopian and romp are mutually exclusive. I was thinking this could be a fun story, but the premise to me is somewhat inherently dystopian.

I can go with that (for instance, perhaps 'Brazil' counts), but for a real dystopia, eventually the fun is likely to turn out to be not so fun for the great majority of participants.

That's certainly true of the current dystopian era we're living in :-(

I specifically thought of Brazil. Also Fallout.

Absolutely, it's horrible when you think of the actual effects it would have on real people and the implications of what else may be happening, but for a contained story, it could be fun.

Dicrostonyx ๐Ÿšซ

@Grey Wolf

A lot of Doctor Who could fall into this category too. The situations are often dire and his companions may be in real danger, but the Doctor is just bouncing from disaster to disaster having fun.

blackjack2145309 ๐Ÿšซ

@LupusDei

the movie i was referring to "Virus" was a late 1990's movie about an AI that came down from space via Mir.

The point im trying to make is it seems to me when ever there's a movie about an AI it comes to some kind of horrifying conclusion and if it determines it is a problem it'll try to correct it.

It's a little cliche i know....
