Author "Refusenik"

dougb ๐Ÿšซ

Does anyone know what happened to the author "Refusenik"? He has 3 stories posted here, all good, but his "Island Mine" is one of the best stories on the whole site and begs for a sequel. Anyway to contact him or see if he has posted elsewhere?

As far as I know he's tied up with his job at the moment. He's never responded to the email/message I once sent but other folks may have heard back.

I don't remember the URL to the author info site.

There have been multiple threads going back to at least 2017 asking about Refusenik. IIRC Wheezer at one point posted that he had heard second hand that Refusenik had started a business and was too busy to write.
Regardless, Refusenik hasn't personally replied in thread, posted a blog, posted a new story or AFAIK replied to reader feedback in four years. His stories are not archived, so he had logged in at least once in the last four years.

@Radagast

so he had logged in at least once in the last four years.

The magic number is five (years). I see he is not contactable by "SOL Email" which either means he has opted out or he has not logged in in the past year.

Or, as has happened to many of us over the years, he longer has access to the server his original email depended on. Or even likelier, he simply has no wish to be continually bugged about not catering to the SOL readers' constant demands on his personal time.

If he has a successful life outside of SOL, then more power to him, though I'd still appreciate a note to ensure that he didn't die in a tragic turn of events. After all, who's to say it's not a relative who's still keeping track of a favorite storytelling in their family, to see whether anyone even cares what he did with his life?

That was what I meant with "opted out".

btw: If he still logs in, he does actually need that email address unless something goes wrong. There is also nothing to stop him changing the address (as long as he knows his SOL password).

Well, I just reread all of Refusenik's stories here and am more convinced than ever that he is one of the best authors on this site. I hope he is still writing somewhere because he has a great imagination and his stories are all well worth reading. COME BACK REFUSENIK AND WRITE SOME MORE!!!

I have now heard that Refusenik has sadly passed away. Can anyone confirm this?

Where did you hear this bit of news?

Doubt it.

Where is the source of this news.

Actually it was from a different post on this website. I had forgotten that I had previously asked about Refusenik and below is one of the answers I received. I too hope it is not true.

@dougb
Someone recently posted in another thread that refusenik was no longer breathing. Laz asked for details, but none were provided that I recall. Still, probably best not getting your hopes up.

When an author has been inactive for three years ("inactive" means they have not visited this site) their stories are made Premier Only.
One year of inactivity means the "email" button disappears, although that also happens if the author requests it.

Refusnik does not have the email button, but his stories are not Premier Only (and are not in the "Up for Archival" list either). If they are not archived in the next 10 days, that posting three years ago was incorrect - unless someone else has been using his account.

Hopefully, the stories will not be archived in the next 10 days. Then there is still hope.

Frick, I hope this is not true. Even if he never writes again.

All three of his stories resonated to me.

I, do hope, he writes again, since he is an amazing author.
