#1: I immediately thought 'Caspian Grey', but didn't get Lumpy's Destiny's Road without a site search. It might not be the correct one, the tutoring goes both ways and there are other memorable aspects, but it's the first I thought of, and is the first of a series.
I'm also sure this aspect came up in at least one do-over, but I can't bring any more to mind, sorry. ETA: @liamb identified the do-over I was thinking of.

Among many other possibilities mentioned, Giants in the Sandbox fits. (MC inherited his 'home' which was essentially a bunker with stockpiled of wrecked army 'vehicles' (a number of which were still armed, and he rebuilt a number to working status) along with tools and ammunition.)
As for the first... sounds like the event was the one held at the nude ranch, in the story Second Time Through by Phil Brown.
