Lottery story? Revenge on reporters?

Paully_s81 ๐Ÿšซ

I think the MC wins some sort of money then gets back at the reporters and media. I think he starts his own paper about true news. Or only the truth. Something like that.

The story you are looking for is https://storiesonline.net/s/16265/sauce-for-the-gander by https://storiesonline.net/a/REP

It ends when he's making plans to take revenge on the reporters and their bosses who won't leave him alone.

That's the one. Thanks.

I wish more and more people being interviewed would call out reporters who ask stupid questions by just saying "You're a moron, next question please."

If I won the lotto and a reporter asked me how I felt I would say I was sad I won because now I have to put up with stupid questions like this.

Brilliant!

The problems I have with reporters are they either ask stupid questions or won't ask the right questions. It drives me nuts when someone states a provable lie and no reporter calls them out on it.

Radagast ๐Ÿšซ

Anyone who has had personal dealings with reporters or politicians knows they are not there to tell the truth, they are there to spread a narrative that helps control the thought processes of the population. If nodding wisely while blatant lies are told will spread or reinforce the narrative, then they will do it.

Lewis Carroll understood this."When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean โ€” neither more nor less.'

'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can make words mean so many different things.'

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master โ€” that's all."

I have noticed the lack of the following question directed at sportspeople who have just won, "How does it feel to have won, the world championship/ Olypic gold /glf major and so forth?"
I think the t.v. reporters in the U.K. have been put wise as to how stupid that question sounds to the viewers. Have not heard it asked for a while.

cesspool

"The main difference between a septic tank and a cesspool is that a septic tank is designed to hold wastewater until it is pumped, unlike a cesspool that slowly drains. Septic tanks require less maintenance than a cesspool since they are a holding system whereas a cesspool has constant drainage."

Also see successpool, not sure but may involve sucking a cesspool.

It would be interesting to know where you got that quote from.

In the US, what that quote calls a septic tank would be called a holding tank. A Septic tank is part of a system where waste water is partially treated before being leached into the ground.

A cesspool lets untreated water leach into the ground. Cesspools are illegal in most parts of the US.

A Septic tank is part of a system where waste water is partially treated before being leached into the ground.

That has always been my understanding. The waste is broken down by microbes, and liquid is drained into the ground via a series of perforated pipes, where further breakdown occurs (if it is built correctly).
It's a well-proven and safe alternative when city sewer systems aren't available.

Cesspools lack the piping system that makes septic systems usable as a long-term solution.

Both holding tanks and septic tanks need to be pumped out periodically. Though a septic tank wouldn't need to be pumped out as frequently as a holding tank.

People also ask
What is the difference between a septic system and a cesspool?

How does a cesspool work?

Why are cesspools bad?

How often does a cesspool need to be pumped?

How many years does a cesspool last?

How much does it cost to convert a cesspool to a septic system?

How do I know if my cesspool is full?

What happens when a cesspool fails?

How do you maintain a cesspool?

How deep is a cesspool cover?

What happens if you never pump your septic tank?

How do I find my cesspool cover?

Yes, almost everything about this quote is backwards to reality.

A cesspool either holds everything until it is pumped, which means frequent pumping, or it leaks untreated waste into the ground.
That's why it is often illegal.

A septic tank does in fact require less maintenance, but that is because it does drain constantly! But in this case, it is not "untreated" waste, it is liquid separated from the solids which is then further digested by bacteria in the earth surrounding the drain field. Something that bacteria have been doing since the first dinosaur took a dump.

All in all, pretty typical for the (mis)information gleaned from the internets...

Reporters are the fourth level, i.e.
- Those who can't do, teach.
- Those who can't teach, become politicians
- Those who fail at being politicians, become reporters.

Here in the UK, we have a prime minister who was a newspaper columnist, and a senior politician who then became a newspaper editor. I'm not sure how you would rank newspaper editors, columnists and reporters on the cesspool scale. At least a reporter's articles are supposed to be fact based, whereas a columnist is giving an opinion - without needing to justify it with facts. And an editor tells both the kind of slant that is needed.

Politicians are, by definition, the people who run for office and are elected by us to run our governments. My suggestion - if you dislike all politicians, run for office yourself. (think 100 percent of the people will like what you do 100 percent of the time?)
Reporters are our sources for news. Don't like the way they do their jobs - become a reporter yourself. (think 100 percent of the people will agree with how you report the news and do your job 100 percent of the time?)

Politicians are, by definition, people who want power over other people. Do you really imagine that people not interested in power would ever bother to run for office? If they aren't corrupt to start with, well, power corrupts.

Government and politicians are necessary evils, but a necessary evil is still evil.

My suggestion - if you dislike all politicians, run for office yourself.

I wouldn't trust myself with that kind of power.

It's even worse when a reporter asks the "How do you feel" question to someone who just lost a loved one. Makes want to just kick him/her in the crotch.

irvmull ๐Ÿšซ

"Other than than, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?" is an old joke, but it's clear that at least half of our "press corps" would ask that exact question in all seriousness.

I once wrote for a company in-house newsletter that was distributed to employees. The obvious purpose was to promote the image of the company and improve employee morale. Even with that in mind, we were held to much higher levels of journalistic integrity than ANY of the DC press corps seem to be aware of.

A little mashup here.
A reporter walks up to a man pumping out a septic tank and asks "Sir do you feel you have a shitty job?"

You will find, I believe, that the folks doing this job (pumping out septic systems), have the best sense of humor, especially when it relates to their job.

For a good example of their humor level (low and lower), just do a google image search for 'septic truck joke'.
