Lost story or failing memory

adrmv ๐Ÿšซ

I read and reread a lot of stories here and I don't know if I am mixing things up in my head or what...
What I remember is a story about ice hockey I think in college. At some point the main character gets injured and coaches the team. There is also interaction with the press and there is a scene where a opposing player gets injured (cut throat) and mc saves him on ice.

Only stories I can think of are the D-Man series by Cold Creek but I don't remember him ever coaching or a player getting throat cut,,,

Sorry, that is not the one. Could it be that it was a different sport?

an advanced search on hockey came up with several stories in this series. I've not checked them, but you may wish to.

OK, I've not read any of them, so I wasn't sure. However, there aren't that many stories with Hockey in the description, so it wasn't a huge list and the others all looked like they didn't fit the bill or they were stories I'd read and knew they didn't fit the bill.

Try "Thor" by K. Pelle aka dotb Thor is one of his stories that is not on SOL but searching for K Pelle will get you to the appropriate URL

The thing that really in on my mind is an on ice incident where an opponent goes down and by accident gets cut in the neck (artery) MC saves him and the media make a great deal out of it

I remember that, but I am not sure if I am remembering the story or the real-life incident that happened just like that.

This actually happened to Clint Malarchuck and he was saved by the trainer - https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/othersports/article-3005889/Clint-Malarchuk-bled-death-throat-cut-ice-tried-kill-twice-shocking-tale-survivor-sport-s-gruesome-injury.html

Happened to Richard Zednik as well but he got to the bench on his own then rushed to hospital

I'm sure I read a story, ice hockey is almost non existent on the Dutch television

The Outsider's "A Charmed Life" over at FineStories has a hockey storyline at the beginning but I do not remember anything about a cut neck.

It may be the story he's after with a bit of mixing of things. The MC in that story plays hockey, later coaches the high school team, and is a paramedic who treats a lot of different injuries in his job. There are a couple of scenes involving the press as well.

The main character in A Charmed Life was also wounded in combat between high school and assistant coaching for his former team...

No scene like a skate to the throat, though...

Wasn't there a scene in the military where one guy got hit in the neck during training and almost died, or am I thinking of another story?

You're correct. Chapter 17 of ACL, before Panama one of Jeff's problem children hits another soldier in the Adam's Apple with the butt of his M-16.

If you're like me, it's perfectly understandable. I've over 100 finished works for over 3.7 million words with another 35 works in progress for over 691,000 words, and for every scene in a completed work there were two or more similar versions of that scene I worked on and another scene that didn't make the final version for each scene that did. That's one hell of a lot of scenes to try and remember, then remember which ones made it and which didn't. That's why I re-read a story before I do a sequel or follow on to it.

Well, only two posted stories at FS with a combined total of 400,000 words, so I should remember more... Two more in progress, so maybe that's the cause. I doubt it though...

Sadly not the one I'm looking for but looks like a story I might enjoy. I'll add it to my list. I read the story a long time ago, it might have been on asstr. (It took me a while to discover SOL)
