An old story ( not sure if it was ever posted here cannot remember) about a man who buys a missle silo, turns it into a home with a homeless girl or something, there is a visit by the President as well, would love to re read this story but cannot find it.

That is a good old story, but I found it under at least three authoras names
Deana Johns, D.J. "Doc" Pedersen, Thaumaturge, and I think Deana Woods are all pen names for the same author.
