I may be combining two separate stories here. Aging American baseball player signed by Japanese team. Team owner sets up fake romance w/Japanese celebrity. Player and real girlfriend climb to temple to soak in "healing" pond and find ancient coin/medallion/icon restoring good luck to temple. Eventually winds up successful manager.
