Looking for a swarm cycle story where the mc has been saving a concubine spot for one of his other concubines daughters, and another marine tries to scoop her right after she tested and didn't make 6.5 Sorry for the lack of info but that's all I can remember..and I am going through the entire Swarm catalog now looking for it...
Thought it was a Tom Klingman story by Openbook by couldn't find it.

IMHO the closest that story comes is Chapter 12.
A gorilla (not really) sponsor has killed one of his concubines and wants to take her daughter when she turns 14. The mc keeps her hidden until then, then she tests, gets 4.something and he is permitted to take her as an extra. The bad guy turns up around then but he's too late.
There's another scene later on in the story when two sponsors' kids test. The male kid is expecting to get 8.something, the female kid has low expectations. Of course she gets 7.x and he gets 3.x.

yeah that's the scene I remembered though not quite the way the same "feelings" between mc and girl that my mind remembered lol. Thanks Dinsdale and itsmehonest!
