I read this story years ago. A teen boy in high school has the financial wherewithal to support himself (I think from doing something with computers or software, but I'm uncertain about that.) He has troubles at home (again uncertain, but I think it must have been with his mother because I think I remember that his father helped him move his stuff from the family home to an apartment.) There was a girl involved in the story, probably also a teenager (and there may have been more than one girl)
