Guilty Pleasures?

Wheezer ๐Ÿšซ

Do you have a favorite guilty pleasure in your reading or viewing habits? Maybe you are a fan of Dora the Explorer books or Curious George. Maybe you secretly are a big Twilight fan, even though you are a Senior citizen.

V. C. Andrews books?
Spongebob?

What do you like to read or watch that you are absolutely NOT part of the creators target audience?

Myself? Spouse & I have been binge-watching Hanna Montana on Disney+. Despite being a non-christian who does not celebrate christmas, I have a weakness for Santa-themed movies & stories.

I also like reading stories where the MC is a bit of a Mary Sue.

I'm a big Twilight SPARKLE fan. I'm forty years old, and watch a lot of cartoons still. On a more personal note...

Although I would NEVER really do it. I have this strange compulsion for those Japanese porn movies where penis just pops out a hole in the wall in grocery stores, libraries, and other normal everyday places, and girls just casually go up and start sucking on them. I've even been thinking of writing a story about a startled American woman discovering that this is an actual 'THING' in Japan.

:)

PS, I still sometimes break out crayons and color!

Animation, anime, cartoons or whatever. I am as likely to watch the latest g rated animation as any r rated slasher or action movie. I am a Studio Ghibli fan from way back. Really shouldn't be a surprise considering the nick. and to put it into perspective, I have 5 grand kids and am closing in on 60 faster than I would like.

The alternative to getting older is being dead. In theory there might be suspended animation but it isn't currently available. Or if you could travel close to the speed of light relative to Earth, your time would slow down and you could come back after years or centuries here and only experience a short time (relatively speaking, or relativity speaking) while traveling. Other solutions like time travel or ones Do-Over stories offer appear to be fiction. I suggest being happy with however old you get and try to live as long as you can. Just don't outlive your money.

I like to tease my mom with the fact that her baby boy is now closer to sixty than she is.

I think I have a better sense of self-preservation than you. If I did something like that I would not like the outcome. I might be uninvited to Thanksgiving supper!

Or perhaps my mom has a better sense of humor than yours.

Strangely enough I have exactly the same number of children as grand children and in the same ratio of boys to girls. I don't expect it will stay that way as two of mine have yet to marry (though that never stops anyone).

Never tell your lady that your moobs are bigger than her breasts.

I am a big anime fan myself.

Back in the 70's I took a Animation class and we had Ben Washam the head animator for the classic WB cartoons show up and he brought a bunch of cells from those cartoons for us to play with. We ended up wiping them clean. Boy were we stupid.

I don't know how guilty I really feel about it, but I loved Ernest Cline's Ready Player One. I also really liked the Spielberg movie, but I have read RPO at least five times and listened to the audible version with Wil Wheaton from Star Trek Next Generation at least eight times.

I find myself drifting toward RPO when I don't find anything new here on SOL that catches my fancy and when I don't want to do any writing myself.

Tee Hee.

P.S. Hell, I even like reading Armada, but I prefer the original "The Last Starfighter."

JimWar ๐Ÿšซ

Mine is something I discovered on PBS; "Last of the Summer Wine." I've spent a year on Amazon buying the DVDs of all the available episodes of the series BBC packaged in that format and have all but eight episodes, which I can see on Britbox. I have watched all episodes at least three times. For those who have not seen it the sitcom ran from 1973 to 2010 and all 297 episodes were written by Roy Clarke. Sadly the series ended when most of the cast members were either dead or too old to continue.

Just ordered the complete set and a region free DVD/Blu-Ray player for the Missus Christmas.

I'm sure that would have been cheaper than the piecemeal idea I had to order them one year at a time. I have been afraid to total it up but the cheapest year was $15 and the highest was $50. Your Missus should have a very happy holiday season.

Oh yes, she watches the ones she has over and over, to the point she's begun to develop a Yorkshire accent.;)

Music is my guilty pleasure. I have found 2 apps that I could download onto my Roku TV so it plays through my surround sound unit. They are Accuradio and Slacker. They have every type of music you can think of. Some of the channels so very diverse that they will play Black Sabbath War Pigs and then the Mama's And Papa's Monday Monday.

Mine is the Author Rick Riordan who does the Percy Jackson series of Greek mythology as well as other series dealing with Norse and Egyptian Mythology. While geared more for young adults, I find it refreshing that someone is updating mythology from Bulfinchs that I had in high school.

Remus2 ๐Ÿšซ

For myself, I think it would have to be "Talking Heads" and subsequent research and reading regarding the life of Dame Thora Hird. The first I heard was "A Cream Cracker under the Settee" in 1988 while working a project in HMNB Portsmouth FMRO.

Hird was an impressive actress and person imo.

She was imoa. The only real exposure I had to her was of course in LOSW but on one of the disc's they had a tribute to her with a lot of her own thoughts about where her acting originated. She did her own shopping and brought to the screen many of those common everyday experiences in her portrayal of her characters.
