Adventures of a Greenie

REP ๐Ÿšซ

I recall reading Vanessa Ravencroft's story several years ago and its sequels. I seem to recall that they were a Series or a Universe. I enjoyed them back then and I enjoyed rereading the first story in the series. However I do have a few questions and observations.

1. The stories I recall are no longer on the site. I don't know when she removed them or for what reason. Does anyone know why the stories were removed?

2. I noticed the copyright date was 2018. That seemed odd to me, since the story was first posted to SOL's site several years ago and had been copyrighted at that time. Does anyone know why the prior copyright date was not included?

3. I will often note edits and observations about a story I'm reading, however I am not always in the mood to do so. I had a set of suggested changes/edits that I intended to pass on to her. Unfortunately, she did not have feedback turned on and her Author's Account did not have an email address or other means of reaching her via SOL. Does anyone know why she disabled feedback or if she intends to enable it later? Does she accepts recommended changes or is she one of the authors who doesn't want reader feedback for how to improve a story? If someone has an way of contacting her, please let her know that I will send my edits via a reply message if she wishes to contact me.

4. I seem to recall that Adventure's of a Greenie was longer than the current version. Is that just my memory failing?

Are you certain the story is finished yet? I think 'The End' is the wizard's contribution, probably because she didn't submit the chapter as 'to be continued'. On the other hand the submission is marked as chapter 1, which usually indicates at least a chapter 2 will follow.

Her stories were here a few years ago but IIRC she pulled them pending publication.

I found her stories here. I believe you have to create an account to read the whole story (like here), but it's also free like here.

My publisher asked to have all free online content deleted, but they are now pursuing a different direction and are no longer interested. So here I am again

No I'm not certain either way. I didn't notice the Chapter 1 versus 2 consideration. Perhaps she just clicked the wrong selection.

And you're right, REP, in that AoaG is indeed longer, about 24 or 25 chapters.

Publishing.

The system shows the copyright date from the posting date unless told otherwise. The poster didn't provide a different copyright date, so the default is being used.

She probably doesn't want everybody asking 'when are you going to post the full length stories'. If an author turns off feedback, then we have to respect their wishes.

4. I seem to recall that Adventure's of a Greenie was longer than the current version. Is that just my memory failing?

No, not failing. There was a much longer version.

I agree with that. I was just interested in whether she would care to receive Comments/edits, and if so, how do I get them to her.

The Forum is a good place to obtain support for using the website and for improvement of your writing skills.

I just checked and Feedback is still OFF. To set it to ON, go to the Author/Editors page and click on Edit Prefs/Profile. Under Mail Forms select Feedback is Desired and then click Save.

You can get the completed story here:https://www.fictionpress.com/u/539273/Vanessa-Ravencroft as well as the first ten chapters of it's sequel. Also there is an explanation of why she had to pull her stories. I know of two of the Eric Olofson stories available on amazon.

I am also hoping since this is being re-posted, that it is now finished, because if I recall correctly it stopped right in the middle of him going off to rescue his parents.

Like you, I don't understand what Vanessa is doing. Unfortunately, we can't email her and ask.

As an author, I enable feedback so my readers can pass information to me about how I messed something up in addition to other comments. Based on a few comments I received, I can understand why some authors don't want readers contacting them.

I remember the story being a lot longer and an earlier post indicated it is 20+ chapters long.

Updated:

Found a link to the story Adventures of a Greenie. There are 25 chapters and it says end of 1st story but will continue in Roy Masters Galaxy at War. There are other stories from the author here as well.

Updated:

Vanessa's recent posts answer many of the questions. She replaced Chapter 1 with a short introduction to Green Hell. What was Chapter 1 seems to have been merged with other story content, which I vaguely recall reading in the past. That content has been divided up between several chapters.

Apparently this is a rewrite of the story I previously read. I'm going to stay with it for a while and see if it is still good.

I'm going to re-read the story here on SOL as well. I read it here many years ago :)

I see 6 chapters are now posted!

just read chapters 3 thourgh 6 and they read more like the story I remember.

I liked her Galactic Chronicles tales series.

Hi thisnis Vanessa,
Yes ai have been here before. I was picked up by Inkitt and they deleted everything, ornasked me to delete online content. They publsihed three novels from the Eric Olafson cycle and have not been all too helpful. The Roy Masters stories have over 10,000 downloads on their site. Yet they are reluctant to publish new books as they want to explore different publishing ways such as interactive stories and are no longer interested in traditional stories. They said itnis okay to use SOl again.
So here I am still lookingmfor a real publisher and perhaps this time around i am luckier.
I am going to post Adventures of a Greenie here and use Pateron to rlease new chapters of Roys next book.

Many of us publish e-pub books via www.lulu.com and www.d2d.com, while I also make print book available via Lulu as well.

Thanks for the information Vanessa. I am looking forward to reading your stories again! :)
