Some story (photographic adventures) better if illustrated?

RNRlifestyle 🚫

I want to continue the first photo story with another woman. And since it's a photo story, I think visual illustrations go well with it. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on whether the images fit this first one or not. The second story features a MILF as the main character.

Illustrating a story is fine.

The problem I encountered was the story's words did not match the illustrations.

I'm of a similar opinion. Illustrations (including cover art) are fine as long as they align with the story. When they don't, I find it bothersome.

Bad:

Depicts scene not in the story.

Contradicts descriptions in story.
Hero depicted with sword in art but uses axe in story.
Female lead described in story as red-head, depicted in art as a blond.
Story describes space ships similar to Start Trek, art depicts ships similar to Star Wars star destroyers.

Actually, the exception are the covers, as their whole point is to draw in those who've never read the author before, as those who have would purchase the book anyway. So, at least within the publishing community, as long as it reflects the basis of the story, whether it reflects a particular scene or not is of little concern.

Which for me, works well, as I mostly rely on fairly genetic stock-art images, which reflects the overall theme of the story. But for the images IN the story, most readers have higher expectations, so it it doesn't precisely fit that particular scene, they'll rake you over the coals for it. (I've always designed my own covers, but have only occasionally included artwork in any, and have only included one piece of my own artwork, as it fit the descriptions of the basis of artistic styles, which few outside of the field could easily grasp.)

I can't agree. If the cover doesn't represent the specific story in a specific way, it should be considered false advertising.

Not a valid excuse.

If the cover is to match the story, then the stories illustrations and words should match the cover.

And if the cover doesn't match the particular story, that ought to be considered false advertising.

I've never been interested in putting images in my stories, but I did experiment with a few covers. No AI, just some Google searches and patience. I found a couple of good ones for my soccer stories, but my favorite is the one I found for

I agreeβ€”you shouldn't just throw random images into the story. I strive for consistency. I hope succeed.

the story's words did not match the illustrations

-- like The Shack: an Angry Man where the car is described as "Mostly primer with a brilliant yellow hood, and passenger door, she was certainly no beauty, looking more like a rent-a-wreck beater than anything else", but the cover shows a rather different beast - obviously AI generated, as a glance at the headlights shows.
