Arise, a load of AI drivel

Filmphotomaster ๐Ÿšซ

Im not sure if the AI generating the story is illiterate, retarded, or just a beta project. BUT...

What the hell is the point of a "story" that rehashes the same 5 paragraphs of "anti main character anger" in every damned update?

Dinsdale ๐Ÿšซ

@Filmphotomaster

Is this is about
- https://storiesonline.net/n/56216/the-inheritance-1-by-arise or
- https://storiesonline.net/n/52622/i-am-super-rich
or both? I've been passively ignoring them so far.

Filmphotomaster ๐Ÿšซ

@Dinsdale

The inheritance is the only one ive tried reading.

The I am super rich is progressively becoming worse to manure...

The AI generating that s..t is forgetting in the same paragraph the kind of familial relation between two characters and at the end of the paragraph even the gender of one of the characters.

Also, the perpetrator of that junk does not even admit he used AI to generate more than a dozen books out of that drivel and tries to sell all of them on ZBookstore...

And of course comments on the story are disabled, so sending feedback is impossible...

Avoid.

Yeah, suddenly turning off ALL feedback has now become the norm. I guessing there's a reason for that, as any feedback those authors are getting is highly critical, or they're simply insecure about their writing chops. That could go either way.

Or trolls are invading, and false claims are being made. It's not just in the comments, either; it's in the forums, too.

At some point, the trolls ruin everything unless they're reined in. Sadly, reining them in is difficult when you beleive in free speach.

I don't believe it's AI. My guess would be a translation of an East Asian graphic novel.

Its definitely AI generated drivel. Not sure what its based off of, but something childish and india/pakistani due to the rigid fetish for the indian caste system.

I believe these come from some TikTok channel that runs these like soap operas.

That would explain the sameness, both within and without.

I wonder how their e-book sales are doing.

Year, there decent translations, yet most aren't worth much. In my case, when I only needed a few lines at a time, I'd someone on Fivrr to translate them for $5 apiece (they'd mostly do several if they're short enough, but you don't quibble when you can't do it yourself.

An epic novel.
Compares to the Mahabharata.

Just not favorably.

Same, but in my case it was skydiving and motorcycle riding...

Beats chugging while writing, as it's tough figuring out what you were thinking. I've found that a decent 'sipping' whiskey is best, as those are too strong to chug, though vodka and rum with chasers work well too). You generally want to remember some of what you've written.

The lesson to be learned? Multitasking is bad.

One of the ways to detect AI (I think) is that stories "written" by AI don't even try to capture your attention, draw you in, or give you a reason to feel you should keep reading.

Most of the better ones by live authors manage to put something in the first few paragraphs that make you want to know what happens later.

I suppose you could say AI thinks humans read for the same reason AI reads - because somebody told them to.

Au contraire, AI does exactly the opposite. It's like ultra-processed food, designed to be addictive but not necessarily nourishing. That comes from copying what worked in the stories that were 'stolen' to feed its LLM.

But have you tried to read this, past the first page?

There have been a number of stories on SOL recently which are pretty much all clones of that story. I believe they're translations of east asian stories. I can't see much evidence of AI in the English versions and they pass Laz's AI detector (although lots of stories with AI generated content do also). So I'm not convinced the horror of that story-telling is due to AI.

ETA aroslav's blog reckons Chinese.

Just tried to read these but didn't get very far, they come across as a really bad machine translation of a source material that isn't much to start with.

Depends on the AI engine.. the one megumi is using actually can do the engagement from the start. but also steals from the stollen and re written scy fi stories on youtube..

So she comes up with the plot and the AI writes the story?

awnlee jawking ๐Ÿšซ

@Grant

If you look at stories with a high AI content, you'll often find incongruities where individual scenes have been generated by author prompt but not linked together carefully enough.

My impression based on a comment from her is that it is even less AI involvement, I would guess it is used in reviewing and spell-checking role, but don't quote me.
