Forum: Story Discussion and Feedback

This site should have a hall of fame

I recently finished Reading Vanessa ravencroft's "Eric olafson" series and i'm now reading Mike cropo's "Wolves and Dragons of the Blood" series, unfortunately both have passed away and left work unfinished but they work they DID leave for us to enjoy? Damn. I think there should be a section/link to the greatest stories on this site that should be exempt from archival/premier so that all can enjoy them...That's why we're all here, we LOVE to read, i understand there's more to it than that but it's worth the thought, no?

There is an unofficial one, I know Don Lockwood is on it and can only guess at some of the others. Jay Cantrell could be another - he last posted at the end of 2019 although he may have returned as a reader.
Lazeez obviously has access to the download counts and maybe he uses them for this purpose.
Don Lockwood "went premier" after his 4 years were up but was back in general availability a day or so later, and I don't think that means he logged in again to reset the counter.

You mean like the "All Time Long Classics" list?

@Tazzy81

There is also the "All Time Short Classics" list.

What is surprising is that cmsix doesn't make either list.

@jimq2

I think the reason for that is that most of Cmsix's works were incomplete, so why highlight an all-time classic incomplete story. Instead what typically happens with incomplete, abandoned stories on SOL, is that someone else completes the story, only further confusing the issue, as then, is it the original authors, the one who completes it, an unequal combination of the two?

Who knows, but it's long been a standard SOL responses where anyone can tackle an unfinished piece. Yet in Cmsix's case, I've always preferred to write my own story, based only on his basic premise, so it's clearly mine, not his.

Who is to determine the stories to be added to the list?

Assume a committee could agree on a set of selection criteria. With the SOL community's varying reading interests and personal preferences, there is no way you will find a committee that will all agree that a story is great and warrants being on the list. If a story is added, a large portion of the SOL community will disagree.
