Erotic Scene ... but

PotomacBob ๐Ÿšซ

I'm interesting in what story is there an erotic scene but that does not result in immediate gratification.
Might be young teens fooling around in a COA story. Or maybe a DoOver with the one that got awayway back when. Or a bro-sis in the back seat of the family sedan at a drive-in theater with parents in the front seat. It's okay if that encounter lights a spark that, in a later scene, results in consummation.
IS there such a story on SOL? Hundreds of them?
I was not sure exactly which forum this query belonged in.

I'm sure there are hundreds of them, but CRS has hit and I'm only remembering the ones in my stories:

There's one toward the end of Protective Coloration

There's an entire section of Building a Better Past on stopping and leaving everyone hanging

I think I must have a thing for this minor twist as I just realized that it shows up in the middle of Charley and Claire as well.

There are several Lubrican stories that include this in various ways. The two I can think of off-hand are "Horsing Around for Halloween" and "The Hot Tub Blues". Both involve siblings messing around leading to mostly unsatisfying sex, then later talking about and deciding to finish the job properly. So it's not quite coitus interruptus, but it's close.

Wizard also has scenes of delayed gratification, especially in his longer stories. The only SOL story I can confirm for sure has this content is "Jenny's Bath":

Note that this story involves an adult man giving baths to girls aged 12, 10, and 8. There's a lot of sexual contact, but only one brief scene of intercourse. To your request, several baths are followed by the protagonist going to his bedroom for release.

There are at least a few instances of things ending in a 'blue balls' sort of way for my MC in Variation on a Theme. Of course, it's a very long story, so ... yeah. That's a tiny part of the story, but it happens, and more than once.

There are also at least two places where intercourse is avoided by a fraction of an inch (and stays avoided). I am pretty sure that orgasms are had (by both participants) in those cases, though - just not intercourse.

And there are more than a few dates where people get moderately worked up, but then go home.

Which ... is life, more or less. If you've got enough dating, some dates will be really good, but not wind up in a bed.

My MC is fairly definitively not a 'sex on the first date' sort of guy, which (of course) increases the number of dates which end short of anything 'happening' but where both people might have been amenable (even, sometimes, eager) for something to 'happen'.

Tagging it would be silly, so it's not tagged. If I tagged everything I could tag, it would be ridiculous. I feel like 'blue balls' would only make sense to tag if that was really a core part of the story, not a tiny element in a long, long story.

I generally agree, although I'll add that:

(a) tags should be used in reference to major story themes, not just sexual content, and
(b) tags should also be used to flag content that falls under serious trigger warning territory if it is explicit, even if it is a minor part of the story.

Neither applies to the current subject, but these are things that I've noticed a lot of authors don't seem to consider.

Agreed to both. Major story themes and trigger warnings.

That said, I'm a fan of the 'caution' tag. For a long story, something might happen which is a trigger, but is also a bolt out of the blue.

Hypothetically: a major character gets raped. Definitely traumatic, definitely a trigger, but putting the 'rape' tag on the story both draws in rape-story fans (who will be disappointed) and sends the reader into the story going 'Ok, who's getting raped and when?'

A tag is the ultimate Chekhov's Gun. It must be fired. Its presence is a spoiler.

'Caution' is a way around that. Not the best, but there is no 'best' way around that. The element of surprise necessarily conflicts with the need to notify.

I've previously offered to confirm or deny whether any given trigger is hit in my story. No one took me up on it (and I had a fairly significant trigger at one point).

I meant do a search on the words "blue ball" in the story. I didn't even know that was a tag. And it was tongue-in-cheek.

And I just went off that without checking. Not a tag :)

Still, it went in a useful direction, so that's good.
