I need a black_coffee

In the 2000s black_coffee wrote a number of pieces including Sparks and Gunny and Leonore which I've just completed reading, scoring 9 on both, and would recommend to anyone liking a military story with strong, well developed characters. There was supposed to be a third story which would tie the open threads together but it never appeared. Does anyone know what happened to black_coffee? He seems to have just faded away after Gunny and Leonore yet his blog suggests he was still fairly young at the time.

The account still has email, which means that somebody has logged in at least once during the last year.

On 10/13/2021, richardshagrin posted - "I read the following: Has anyone else heard of Black Coffee's demise?"

Four hours later, Black Coffee posted, "I'm dead? Who knew!"

To the best of my knowledge, that post was the last post he made to the forum. His last blog post was in April 2012.

On a more recent note… Yesterday I reread Twice As Much and sent a message of appreciation to the author. I got a very nice reply so I know they're still out there.

For anyone who reads this, if you're up for a gentle story about courage and compassion, it's out there waiting for you.

Hi, I still live, and live well, thanks.

I run a business unit of a technology company. I can't really afford the time to write (but somehow find the time to read...). Simply put, my career got in the way, and of the set [writing, family, career] I could pick two. I probably have ~8-10yrs before I retire.

I'm kicking around the idea of a different novel in the Speculative/Science Fiction genre (meaning, a study of what happens to people affected by a technology). We'll see if it lights up and does more than gutter and sputter.

Anyway, thank you very much for thinking of me.

Oh wow - oh wow - oh wow.

If you are reading here, I need to thank you very much for the two stories mentioned. Talk about page-turners. What I liked most were your variety of three-dimensional characters.

While I would love to read the concluding novel, I completely understand your real life pressures. I can personally recommend retirement. It gives you lots of time to do things or to do nothing.
