A lot of do-over stories seems to have swinging and indiscriminate sharing and i'm wondering why?.
makes it hard to find do-overs without it (especially when authors have been either lazy about tagging or blatantly deceptive).

I'm assuming it is because the authors would have liked to have had that opportunity when they were teenagers.
Al Steiner's "Doing it all over again" definitely qualifies - as does rlfj's "A fresh start", but Don Lockwood's "Rewind" [incomplete] has the MC as serially monogamous (and usually not the one who broke the relationship off).
i never had any problem with "Doing it all over again" but then i dont remember anything that i'd class as swinging or sharing at the level that makes me 'nope' out of a story. then again, it's been a while since i read it so i might be forgetting things.
actually, more recently because of Hindsight 20/20 and Twice Lucky. both of those are just laden with swinging and sharing seemingly as major elements of the story which, honestly, are detrimental to the rest of the story IMO.
like, i also love harem polygamy stories but only those where the relationship group is a 'closed circle' whereby nobody goes outside the group and if they do, they get excluded from the group. unfortunately so many of those have swinging, sharing and open relationships jammed in that i wouldnt touch them with a 10ft pole (if they're tagged correctly).
i'll second sunseeker on if anyone has any non-swinging/sharing/open-relationship stories.
A significant part of "Doing it all over again" is the mc's "male slut" phase where he is boffing females left, right and centre. Whether that's Swinging is debatable.
I read Twice Lucky years ago and just remember the outline, not sure I've read Hindsight 20/20 at all.
Aroslav has "Not This Time", that could well be ok for you.
detroitmechworks has Remix, that's also a possibility.
The Night Hawk has "Once More With Feelings", ditto.
Those last three all have the male mc coming back as female (I think, it's been a while). OWMF is an excellent story.
I hear ya on that! And would love to read some recommendations where it don't happen like Rewind, Emend by Eclipse, Echo etc.
None of the recent stories or series please.
Thanks, SunSeeker
Paul's Redemption is, IIRC, serial monogamy.

Rlfj's https://storiesonline.net/universe/787/a-fresh-start
Has the MC slut around in high school until he meets up again with his true love in college. No swinging or swapping.
It's not just do-overs, but a very large percentage of romance and nearly all coming-of-age stories have swinging/swapping. It's male fantasy.
i can understand sleeping with many women as a male fantasy (i am a male after all) what i cant wrap my head around is swinging and sharing a girlfriend or wife with other guys. i guess my brain is incapable of pretzel-izing to be able to understand and like that.

Plot device for the main character to have sex with multiple other characters.
If they find their one true love early on, then the only way the main character is going to have sex with others (without breaking up with their one true love until reconciling at the end of the story) is Swinging/sharing.

Or a harem, which is neither swinging nor sharing. Perhaps he has 2 or 3 true loves.

Yep.
There more than a few of those stories around too.

Or doing a closed polyamorous relationship. Now, if you're wanting them to have a changing list of bedmates, yeah, the whole swinging/swapping thing, but why? Haven't figured that one out yet.

As Dinsdale suggested in the first response- something the author would would/have liked.
And given the number of such stories with lots of reads & lots of high scores, quite a few readers feel that way also.
Personally, i'm the "When you've got a good thing, stick with it" type. Others just can't seem to help themselves and if it's new & shiny then they've got to have it, till the next new & shiny thing comes along, and they have to have that.
Different strokes for different folks.
If there's anything the last few years have shown beyond any reasonable doubt- there's a huge number of people that just aren't rational.

I see what you mean. Yep, I'm very much the same way. Probably because it was never about the sex.
In my stories the poly relationships are closed and fully balanced (currently all ffm, but there's the possibility of a mmf in the sequel), so if one of the characters dies, for example, the other two will remain together. They're also solidly closed โ no one is looking to add another. It's my fantasy, after all.
I'm not entirely sure if my story counts or doesn't count, which I find interesting. My MC has a fairly high 'count', and a goodly part of it happens during an open relationship, but I don't know that any of the encounters count as either 'swinging' or 'indiscriminate sharing'.
The sex winds up being largely due to the relationships between the characters.
Quite a few stories seem to 'want' to bend towards 'harem,' 'polyamory,' etc. I had to fight that off to a certain extent, because while it might have been good in the short term, it would have broken some of the characters in the long term.
The only tag I have that fits is 'mult'. Looking over the tags again, 'sharing' may technically fit, or it may technically not fit. I haven't gotten any complaints about its lack, and the open relationship itself is introduced long before anyone sleeps with anyone outside of it (so readers have plenty of time to bolt - though it's well into the story, and I'm generally sympathetic to people who say 'I wouldn't have started if I knew X was going to happen). If I added it, I might get complaints because what I'm doing doesn't really meet their definition of 'sharing'.
granted i'm still in book 1 (got 8 or 9 chapters left to finish) but i havent yet come across anything that i would class as 'swinging' or 'sharing' or the like yet. though i wouldnt pass on maybe getting some details via PM about the open relationship you mention before i decide to continue reading or not (i'm very much one of those 'if i knew X happened i wouldnt read' types so i take tags and descriptions on good faith which has burnt me a few times.)
Replied via SoL-mail as well, but yes, for anyone who's interested, I'm happy to answer questions like that via SoL-mail. Drop me a note and I'll do so.
I suspect a lot of the reason is because both Do-overs and poly/swinging relationships in fiction are ultimately about the same fantasy of not being limited to your choices. Life is finite and choices matter, but in do-overs you can try again and in swinging/ poly relationships you can have it all. No choices are ever final.
Note that I explicitly am referring to swing/ poly in fiction. The reality of these relationships is very different than how they are typically depicted in stories. Poly especially is more comparable to a sexual orientation in which such people aren't fulfilled when limited to a single relationship.
