Not really new topic - Jay Cantrell

mijpark49er ๐Ÿšซ

I was looking at a certain other site for creators (and deciding that the available ยฃ5 per month subscription wasn't for me) when I thought I'd check if there was any sign of activity from Jay.
A search for his name came up with no hits and a "cut and paste" from his SOL page finds the message "This patron isn't supporting any creators at the moment"
Do I read the worst in this?

Jay Cantrell has had a conflict for time between between family, work, and writing. He has been out of contact for over 2 years, and has been added to the ReaderInfo website.

I don't think anyone here on sol knows 100% for sure but there are many threads in this forum you can search for and read what is said re Jay Cantrell.

At this point I consider him "retired", not that he couldn't make a comeback but he's been inactive long enough that I've given up hope to see anything.

I have always been in awe of authors like Jay Cantrell and their ability to spin lengthy stories in their free time. While I would love to read more from Jay Cantrell (and Refusenik, please!), I can certainly understand how difficult it can be to juggle a professional life and family with such a hobby.
The trend to Patreon gives these writers some rewards for their work, if they can generate a following. While not adverse to the free stories, I don't mind sending some money to the ones who have entertained me for hours.

His Patreon page was not his idea, I remember him blogging that writing was his hobby and not something he felt he should be taking money for. I think readers had offered to pay him for further stories in the existing "universe" of his.
In the end he changed his mind. Then came a new job, Covid and his "retirement".

The thing that amazes ne about either how much research he does or how he makes it sound so plausible it could be. Just take "Daze in the valley".
