When you can't reach an Author

I don't know any way to reach Westside24 who is currently posting "The Attorney", but I believe he may need to adjust his Profile if he plans to continue posting the story, which got Chapter 5 today.

My stories while mostly fantasy do have a little touch of truth in that they may center around an incident or person that either has been told to me or someone I have known. With one recent exception, I try to avoid space travel, time travel, body-switching, and aliens. With the time involved in writing these stories, it is disappointing to receive some of the ratings. As such, there is a lack of incentive for the writing of future stories and I am probably posting my last story. It no longer is worth doing it."

It is a disappointment when any author stops writing. After 15+ years of writing stories, I can see him retiring if the time and effort has become too much. His profile indicates there is more than the expenditure of time and effort contributing to his decision, assuming he does stop writing.

Comes with the territory. If they are more vote whore than doing it for the fun, then their choice. Can't see that description wording helping any, and yes, I do see the irony of me writing that...

Myself, I see it as silly, to be honest.

I readily admit, I write mostly for myself. I write stores mostly as I would like to read them, and if some do not get it, not my problem. I see myself as a storyteller, and try to capture what I find bouncing around in my head, and largely do not care if others get it or not.

I of course like it when they do, but ultimately to me it is a craft I enjoy, and often love when I am able to take some trope and turn it on its head. Not in an effort to be cruel, but to get others to realize there is more than one way to look at anything.

A do over where the person repeats dies tragically? A store detective who abused women forced to go to hell as a female who has no choice but to repeat what he did to get sent down there? A "Naked in School" story where a male is forced to be essentially gay? Trying to write a story with every single code available?

Why not? I enjoyed writing them, and do not care that they are among my lowest scored stories. I have never written for "scores".

For those who don't know who Ben Simmons is, he's the point guard on the NBA's Philadelphia team. He got criticized heavily for his poor shooting in the post season to the point he stopped shooting which got him criticized more.

The reason I bring it up is, this is a quote from his high school coach:

"You start getting some criticism, so you stop doing stuff that people are going to criticize."

Sounds like this author feels the same way.

I agree with Mushroom, to a degree. You write the best story you can, and it either stands or fails on it's own, but that's the story, not the author's ego at that point. But for any author who doesn't care how the story succeeds is only kidding themselves, because if the author doesn't care how the story plays out, and whether it works or not, then neither will the readers!
