Possible One Day Event

Mushroom ๐Ÿšซ

I have been thinking of on 1 April writing one or two short stories, all of which would be having fun with other stories I have written.

In short, "April Fool" stories, taking at least 1 (but maybe 2 or 3) stories, and writing a short involving them but going in a completely different direction for fun.

So far, for me it has me writing out plots for at least 2. Like having Bohica "come out of the closet", starting to wear a dress and having everybody call him Bonnie. Or Pete from Country Boy decide he is tired of his life as a retired tech guy, and decide to enter the porn industry in some form of fetish porn.

Would my doing so be taking a joke a bit too far though? And has anybody else thought of deconstructing their characters in that way, or am I the only one with such a sick imagination?

I already did an April Fool review.

One of the USA's Founding Fathers offers sage advice just as appropriate now as when it was first penned more than 250 years ago.

Sage advice from a founding father. Sort of a Lazeez of his era, being a printer of a number of publications. I try not to use spoilers in a review, but his eighth and final reason for having an older mistress is often quoted and certainly as true today as it was when written. The copyright date on the SOL page says 2010, but internal evidence indicates it was written prior to 1750, advising its recipient to marry, but if not then to choose an older woman as mistress.

It's short and doesn't have a lot of plot, and the characters are not named or very well developed. I will give the Plot an n/a. Technical quality is adequate, I saw a wrong word toward the end, proofreading appears not to be one of the author's strengths. If I recall, before Webster's Dictionary, spelling was not as consistent as it is now. Also the style is a little old fashioned, but consistent with other documents from the period so allowance must be made. I will give it a 7, which is a B.

As I mentioned the ending is the strongest part of the document, and it has been of interest to readers for hundreds of years, I will give it an 8, which is an A.

I recommend this as the better of the author's two stories on SOL. I have not read the other one, but it appears to be a discussion of farts. Oh, by the way: April Fool!"

Love it!

And for those that do not know, old Ben really DID write an essay about farting. Known as both "Fart Proudly", and "A Letter to a Royal Academy".

I have perused your late mathematical Prize Question, proposed in lieu of one in Natural Philosophy, for the ensuing year...Permit me then humbly to propose one of that sort for your consideration, and through you, if you approve it, for the serious Enquiry of learned Physicians, Chemists, &c. of this enlightened Age. It is universally well known, that in digesting our common food, there is created or produced in the bowels of human creatures, a great quantity of wind. That the permitting this air to escape and mix with the atmosphere, is usually offensive to the company, from the fetid smell that accompanies it. That all well-bred people therefore, to avoid giving such offence, forcibly restrain the efforts of nature to discharge that wind.
.

He also wrote many other rather vulgar essays. Including advice in how to select a mistress. And for over 150 years his essay as Polly Barker was anonymous until his authorship was confirmed (it was about the contradiction in accusing the mother of an illegitimate child, but not the father of the same child).

I think it would be fun.

You know, SOL now has the Writing Event tool for organizing something like that. I would definitely read the stuff.

Do not think I have found that. Where is it?

The reader facing one is under 'Collections' next to series and universes:

The author tool to create an event is here:

You'll have to promote the event somehow, on your blog, here on the forum, contact potential authors that you think would be interested and willing to participate, etc...

Wow, not exactly intuitive, is it? No wonder I have never found that before.

Not even sure if I got it right.

@Mushroom

Did you ever read Misery? This reminded me of the non-existent work "Misery's Hobby" mentioned in that novel. (By the description I remember, I think rache could have done a remarkable job actually creating that story...)
