Bookapy questions

Switch Blayde ๐Ÿšซ

1) The T&C states:

b. Include or contain any child pornography (images of persons under 18 nude or in sexual situation no matter how mild you think they are.)

Is that restricted to images or also story content? Can the character engaging in sex in the story be under 18 (say 15)?

2) Is there a minimum/maximum price for the book?

3) Is there a minimum/maximum size (number of words)?

Michael Loucks ๐Ÿšซ

With regard to (1) My stories conform to the SOL standard age 14, and I select 'extreme content' when I post to Bookapy. I've sold many copies of my books.

Don't know the answer to (2) or (3).

For SOL, the story content break point is 14. For photos with any form of sexual content included in the story, or as a book cover, the breakpoint is 18.

If the cover photo is of an under 18 yo young woman with no sexual content and the woman in the photo is to represent a 14 yo character who is in sexual situations, I would say that is a problem. You would need to get a ruling for that from Lazeez.

Thanks, guys.

I just wanted to make sure the Bookapy rule on age was the same as SOL.

I found the answer to #2 by browsing books on Bookapy. Some were free so there's no price rule.

Still don't know if there's a word min or max.

I have a story there which is 641,000 words.

Wow. "War and Peace" is 587,000 words and it was originally written as a four-volume set with two epilogs.

"Battlefield Earth" was originally published as a single book at (IIRC)480K Words.

I can sort of understand why dead tree publishers want to keep size down, but with e-books there is just no reason to artificially limit yourself (which is not meant to justify deliberate word padding).

But if there is truly that much story to tell, go for it.

The entire universe is 12,000,000 words, written over the past five years.

My latest novel is my longest to date at a little over 102,000 words. It took me 10 months to write. I don't have enough months left to ever catch you.

If the story and image are acceptable for SoL, as per the posting rules 7 & 8, I'd say you'd have no problems at all. As to price, Lazeez has not set any limits. For the word size, I'd go with a minimal book limit of 750 words as stated in rule 13.

7. Age restrictions: Your work (stories, poems or blog entries) may not contain characters younger than 14 having sex or being in sexual situations (masturbation and nudism are not allowed). In other words, all characters that engage in any sexual activity must be 14 or older.

8. Illustrations/Photos including nudity may be accepted. You must have explicit permission to use the artwork. (You assume the responsibility of using the pictures)

13. An author's first effort for posting on the site must be at least 750 words.

As to the pricing, Lazeez allows for free books, so there is no lower limit, but you need to keep in mind that the price should be high enough to cover the costs of using the payment system used. Thus I'd recommend $0.99 as the lowest price with an actual amount to be collected. Nor has Lazeez set an upper limit.

Other than the free books, my own books sell from $2.95 to $5.95 with $5.95 being my baseline. However, when I finish the current check of the Clan Amir series and post that it will be going up at $19.95 because it's really 7 books being sold as a single e-pub, and it represent as a significant savings as such.

I knew the SOL rules for posting. I thought the rules might be more stringent for Bookapy.

Enforcement is for 14 and up. Although, since money is involved and money can be traced to real identities, I encourage 18 and up only.

If something changes legally in the future, it would be wise to keep things strictly legal.

2) Is there a minimum/maximum price for the book?

It can be free.

But if there is a price, then the system won't accept less than $.99. The price column in the database has an upper limit of $999.99

3) Is there a minimum/maximum size (number of words)?

No maximum. But one must be reasonable with the minimum especially with for sale stuff. Would anybody buy something less than 5,000 word? I don't really know, but I would expect unhappy readers and refund requests in such a case.

Which is why I have some stories so0ld in books as collections of short stories or multiple novellas.

Legal where? I presume you mean Canada. What's legal will vary from nation to nation and in some cases possibly even within a nation.

Because SoL is based in Canada the site need only concern itself with Canadian law. If authors have issues with local laws on what they submit, that's for them to deal with locally.

Which would explain why Amazon only concerns itself with US law, except that's not what Amazon does.

While accurate, we're all under the thumb of the payment processing companies (Credit Card companies, banks, PayPal, etc). They pretty much have the final say unless you're using cryptocurrencies.
