Old story peaking

Uther_Pendragon ๐Ÿšซ

Every once in a while, I see an old story of mine pop up high in my statistics. I figure that was a gift from the random-story elf.

But _Crush_ really topped my charts. Was it chosen twice or something?

Is there any record of what the random stories have been for the last period?

A story can appear in the random story display once in any two weeks period. So if it's weekly downloads that has peaked, then it's not because it was selected twice.

There is no accessible record. The random system keeps track of what has been displayed in order to give a fairer chance to more stories to be displayed, but it's not accessible to readers or authors.

It's weekly downloads. I didn't record the number, and it's now 116. My unreliable memory, however, is that it was much higher when I first noticed it. It's been on the site for 16 years with a total download of 8,000 That's 500 a year, 10 a week average. Clearly, the average represents several high numbers.

Perhaps. I have noticed that when I am posting a story, the download count of my other stories go up.

I have noticed that when I am posting a story, the download count of my other stories go up.

I suspect that happens for most authors who tend to post completed stories with some time between one story finishing and a new one starting.

Hmm,
with me it's the other way round.

If I see a new story starting "in progress" and the description catches my interest and I've never read any story from this author then I lookup his other stories looking for the yellow "incomplete" and how long it took him to complete his other stories then probably download and read a completed one. Now I decide if I will start reading immediately or wait for completion or ignore his/her new story.

BTW, I can't read more than three to five stories concurrently without mixing up the plots in my mind, so I prefer to read completed stories or stories completely written and posting at least twice a week.

With several pauses, I've been posting stories for most weeks. Between Easter and Thanksgiving last year, I was posting a chapter -- or an entire chapter -- 5 days a week.
