Missed the reason for "*" voting below twenty votes

TMax ๐Ÿšซ

I missed something. Why do authors no longer see the current vote value for less than 20? I understand the reason to hide it from the readers (and appreciate it), but I must have missed the why for the author. As so few votes are coming in, some stories have sat at 19 votes for months. I liked to look at them (and being a bit of an engineer, I actually tracked them to see how they changed over time).

ie: I like numbers, even random ones :)

Side note: I do not mind low votes, a vote is a vote, and appreciate that people took the time to vote (which means that they at least looked at my story :)

If you go to your author stats, don't you see it there?

I just found out the score is not in the author stats until the 20-vote threshold is met. I hardly ever check scores so it was an assumption.

Not really: before the min 20 votes for author-visible score was introduced, there had been comments here about getting a 1-vote within a very short time of the story going up, far too short for it to have been read: just someone going 'new story - one bomb' (this is probably what drove the min.20). With 20 votes min a single 1-bomb will have dropped out of the scoring, and with 2 the score is only depressed about 1 vote, whereas if a score was shown with say 3 votes (with a single 1-bomb) the score depression would be quite drastic, something like 3, or about 6 for two 1-bombs (giving a score round 2) on a story which, in the fullness of time, will achieve a score of about 8. IIRC, too many authors were complaining about the low initial scores, so Lazeez just stopped showing them. I think a better solution would be to identify the 1-bombers and quietly ignore their 1-bombs, but it's an unfortunate consequence of the scoring mechanism (and the desire of those who are impotent to feel important) that during a scoring period, if an author 1-bombs everybody else, their score will rise marginally.

Do you think 10 would be a better number?

20 doesn't seem unreasonable, but the number of readers who finish and vote is a lot lower than the average number of views a story has, unfortunately.

@TMax

My memory is gone. I also don't check my scores very often.
To the best of my recollection, Lazeez got tired of authors complaining about 1-bombers and did away with the vote histogram.
