Should you censor them if they criticize the story?

I think only you can decide that.

I haven't felt the need to censor comments criticising my stories, of which I've had my fair share, but I have deleted comments that were off-topic or offensive.

Is probably the only answer worth considering.

I'm not sure if I have ever removed a comment. Possibly once, a long time ago. In a galaxy far, far away...

If the comment is offensive, it's probably because the individual who wrote and posted it, is offensive. So I tend to leave things like that up, because, well, no point in me telling an individual that they are an idiot to everyone else, when I can let everyone else read the comment and make the same conclusion.

@ystokes

If just saying how disappointed, you are in how the story is turning out to be is offensive then so be it.

My idea of 'offensive' involves name-calling or worse, not necessarily towards the author.

Take the heat. You can reply or clarify if necessary, but short of obscene unfounded comments or those that otherwise contravene site requirements, leave them alone.

And if can't take the heat, deleting any negative comment, doesn't that just verify the validity of the criticism? As the full saying goes, "If you can't stand the heal, get out of the kitchen," meaning if you can't stand legitimate critiques, you really shouldn't be an author. In short, your writing may be fiction, but a refusal to face facts is about as real as it gets.

Censoring them is called a Trumpism. And the censor is referred to as a Trumpist.

Social Media has admitted censoring for the Biden administration, so why not a Bidenism?

It's more accurately called authoritarian government. When the boot is on your neck, does it really matter if it's the one on the right foot or on the left foot?

On the risk of being jump on, the difference between Bidenism and Trumpism is that Biden asked that misinformation and flat-out false information be removed, mostly about covid. Trump just wants anything bad said about him be removed under threat of legal action.

It's censorship either way. The First Amendment protects your right to be wrong and forbids the government from censoring you.

Google, Meta, et al, admitted that the government demanded they censor, and they did. That's a clear First Amendment violation. Government, under the First Amendment, does not get to decide which opinions are OK and which aren't OK.

As I said, when the boot is on your neck, does it really matter if it's the one on the right foot or on the left foot?

Except quite a bit of that "misinformation" and "flat-out false" information has turned out to be true.

Could we leave poli-ticks in the swampland?

Should you censor them if they criticize the story?

Returning to the original topic, I would not censor comments related to my stories, including comments related to politics within those stories.

On the other hand, personal attacks against other individuals who leave comments after my stories would likely receive a warning before I would remove those comments.

including comments related to politics within those stories.

There was no mention of politics. One commentor said how he was disappointed in the turn of the storyline went and I agreed with him. It went from a promising love story between two people too just another "Suck & Fuck" orgy. A few days later I see the two comments removed.
