Chapter font formatting issues with recent chapters

Vonalt ๐Ÿšซ
Updated:

I had a reader notify me that Chapter 13 in my story is showing on the screen as the text is in Italic and underscored. I opened my original copy in Libre 0ffice Writer which I have used for years with no problems and it looks fine. File was sent to be posted in Arial style and font size 12. Is there a preferred font style and size?

Document was saved in the Word docx format.

May Lazeez correct me if I err, but I was once told by an editor to use Georgia 13pt. Now I usually use Garamond Premier Pro, 13pt. Seems there is no difference.
As for formatting, I often use Italics for emphasis, names of ships, pubs, etc. I submit as doxc, too, but my computers are MS-free zones. I can only speak for MacOS, where I write in Pages and export to ePub or docx for posting at Bookapy or SOL, respectively. I have encountered the problem of whole pages going italic in SOL chapters, too. From experience, my workaround is to open the file once more in Pages and then export it a second time. That worked for me all year.
Of course, Lazeez prefers html, but that opens up the same problems when I convert. I have to open the html files with Text Edit and save them as html a second time.
Once you know how to work around it, it's just a second export and no biggie. Hope you can get the same result with LO.

My understanding is that if you are talking about ebooks, what font/size you choose is irrelevant. All the e-readers use user settings for font/size.

ETA: Also, within SOL, font/size are user settings.

Lazeez contacted me after my post here and I was able to come up with a work able solution. From now on I will submit chapters in LO Writer's native format, which SOL will accept. I resent the chapter in question in the LO native format and it posted correctly. That is what I will do in the future. I appreciate all those that responded to my question.

What format did you submit it in before? You didn't say in your OP.

@Switch Blayde

His last sentence in the OP indicated docx.

I missed that. So there might have been something LO put into the docx that the SOL system didn't handle.

I recently updated LO and was when my troubles began, I know see there is even a newer version out there so we shall see. I should switch to Office 365, but I am too much of a tightwad to pay the yearly license fees.

My kids use to tell me that when I opened my wallet George and Abe had to put on sunglasses.

I won't pay the subscription fees either. I bought Office Home and Student on my Mac outright (one-time cost). Sure, I don't get updates, but who needs them. List price was $149.99. I got it for less than that during an Amazon sale. You can get it for even less than I paid, but I wasn't comfortable with those selling it, like Groupon (it was worth the few extra dollars to buy it from Amazon). And I believe the Windows version is cheaper than the one for Mac.

Even though I'm using Word, I don't submit the docx to SOL. I do a save as to filtered HTML and submit that. Maybe LO has that save as option. I'm sure Lazeez's coding works better with HTML than docx or LO's file type.

I recently had an issue with a story written using Libra Office. The story contains a lot of italics. When a paragraph was all italics, it changed to normal font. However, if the paragraph had normal font along with italics it appeared correctly. I never did figure out the cause. It could have been the version, the style I was using, or something I did in setting it up for postings. With some editing and with a newer version of LO, the issue was resolved. In doing so a number of grammatical and spelling errors were fixed.

@Vonalt

I use LO to send my stories to TeNderLoin, who is my editor. Recently, I've noticed that it adds an extra blank line to the one I have in between speakers, non-narration, etc.

I post HTML only, after converting from Markdown.
