Need a song!

Charro6 ๐Ÿšซ

Working on a story where the MC meets an oriental girl at a party on Friday night. The meeting only last a few minutes. Sunday morning while casually, listening to the radio MC hears a song that brings back the encounter.
Would prefer classic hard rock, but any genre will do.
China Girl by David Bowie comes to mind, but it's such a slow ballad that if the MC was not paying attention to it, it would not catch his conscious mind.

Mr. Roboto by Styx? ๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

OK. more seriously, what about Tokyo Nights by the Bee Gees or Woman from Tokyo by Deep Purple?

In that vein, China in Your Hand by T'Pau. Probably equally not what you're looking for ;-)

The Hu is awesome. Technically folk-rock, but they're Mongolian and lean into their history and culture, so are metal as fuck. Check out "Wolf Totem" (turn on captions for translated lyrics):

I believe that they describe themselves as "Mongolian Folk Metal."

Leaning into their history and culture, they play modernized(electric) versions of traditional Mongolian instruments.

I've watched all the official videos on their website.

ETA: My introduction to the Hu was a traditionally published novel I read referencing the band and their Wolf Totem song. I just had to google and see if it was real or fictional.

Awesome to hear them get name-checked. Do you remember what novel?

@Quasirandom

It's one of the Alpha and Omega novels by Patricia Briggs.

Wild Sign if I remember correctly.

The lead couple of the series are both seriously into music, and at one point (in Wild Sign IIRC) it mentions them trying to stump each other with musical references. The Hu and Wolf Totem come up in that context.

He said he'd prefer classic hard rock, which, while not determinative, is a strong clue that it's 60s to 90s.

@Quasirandom

I was thinking hard rock from the 70s and 80s almost any song with a good catchphrase will work.

Guess I will have to change her nationality to Mexican. And use El Paso by Marty Robbins. Using the line "I fell in love with the Mexican girl" as the catch phrase.

But I really wanted a Chinese girl.

Then how about "Margaritaville" by Jimmy Buffett?

Woke up with a tattoo of a "Mexican cutie."

That's a great song! The last episode of Breaking Bad is named 'Felina' and that totally gave away the ending for me the minute the title appeared.

One Night in Bangkok by Murray Head. It would stand out.

Strong second for this one, but then 'Chess' is one of my all-time favorite musicals (and, sadly, I've never seen it on stage).

Good evocation of the region, fits the style, very noticable.

Alternatives:
'Turning Japanese' by The Vapors
'China Grove' by the Doobie Brothers (note: China Grove has very little to do with Asia, despite the occasional 'oriental' references in the song - it's about a suburb of San Antonio)
'My Woman From Tokyo' - Deep Purple - probably the most hard classic rock option

Note that the original post is 'oriental'. If 'Chinese' is the goal, 'Japanese' / 'Tokyo' might trigger the memory but might also be inappropriate. But, then, 'Bangkok' is wrong, too.

Well, vying for that title would be the 70's classic from Nazareth, Shanghai'd in Shanghai, with the title line repeated in as part of the chorus much more prominently than the Deep Purple line (yes, really!). Not an Oriental-themed song, but there are plenty of strings that could be used to tie it into the story - Shanghai being a major financial center (which the girl may be based in or visited), tourism, tallest buildings, the song lyrics possibly ('Ripped off and kicked right out the bed', 'Spaced out I crashed out'), even other Nazareth tracks (like Broken Down Angel, Love Hurts or the Joni Mitchell cover This Flight Tonight).

I like Chinese by Monty Python. Expect your character to be jailed if he sings it on an English street.

leaning towards a more offensive angle there is Asian Hooker By Steel Panther. the were originally called Balls of Steel iirc. they are reasonably current but then rekindle 80's hair metal cranking all of the schmotltz, sex and absurdity to 11, (yes that was a well placed spinal tap reference, hey it fits) youtube link here get nostalgic or sick. depending on your links to the time/hair period

Well, being a story site, I'd suggest "Every Picture Tells A Story", by Rod Stewart.

'On the Peeking ferry, I was feeling merry
Sailing on my way back here
I fell in love with a slit-eyed lady
By the light of an eastern moon
Shanghai Lil never used the pill
She claimed that it just ain't natural
She took me up on deck and bit my neck
Oh, people, I was glad I found her
Oh, yes, I was glad I found her'
